Strip quilts at lightning speed: Kathy Brown’s secret (video)

Family Vacation quilt from Strip-Smart QuiltsEasy strip-quilt patterns are a favorite—and why wouldn’t they be? In the time it takes to do dinner and a movie, you can sew a simple strip-pieced quilt top from start to finish. When many quilts take weeks or months to compete, strip quilts are akin to sewing at the speed of lightning!

If you’ve made strip quilts that showcase square and rectangle shapes, bestselling author Kathy Brown says you’re ready to move on to the next level of strip-quilt mastery: triangles. Kathy’s found a way to quickly turn strip-pieced fabrics into triangles, which you can then combine in endless ways—all without sacrificing sewing speed.

Curious about her technique? Kathy showed us her “secret weapon” at Quilt Market—and we caught her demonstration on video:

Note: Kathy’s quilts can be made with or without the Creative Grids 90° Degree Double Strip Ruler. You can also use any right-angle triangle ruler that has marked lines, parallel to the base of the triangle, that measure 2½" and 4½" from the tip of the triangle.

Now that you know Kathy’s strip-pieced triangles are a breeze to create, take a look at just a few of the quilts you can make using her technique. Try projects like these from the bestseller Strip-Smart Quilts:
