We’re happy to welcome Barbara Groves and Mary Jacobson back to Stitch This! as guest writers today. Tell us about your latest book, Layer-Cake ladies!

Me and My Sister DesignsLayer Cakes! For us there couldn’t be a more fitting name for a fabric precut. After all, it’s our favorite dessert in the form of fabric, and it doesn’t get much better than that! So it would make perfect sense for us to create a new book just to celebrate a wonderful precut.

Easy Layer-Cake Quilts features 11 projects, each made using Layer-Cake precuts. All of the quilts are designed for confident beginners and beyond. None are overly time intensive, and most can be completed in a few days.

So, what is a Layer Cake?

Layer Cake is a term trademarked by Moda Fabrics to describe a bundle of 42 precut fabric squares that measure 10″ x 10″. Each Layer Cake usually contains at least one square of each fabric from an entire fabric collection.

We LOVE Layer Cakes . . . and here are 10 reasons why!

House quilt1. We love that when we purchase a Layer Cake, we get a piece of everything in a fabric collection.

2. We love that it’s an affordable way to get our fabric fix when we can’t decide which fabrics to buy off the bolt.

3. We love that we can hide Layer Cakes in our purses when bringing them into the house and keep our purchases top secret.

4. We love that they fit easily in our stashes.

Flower Pot quilt5. We love that when we talk about Layer Cakes, our husbands think we’re talking about food.

6. We love that patterns that use Layer Cakes are fast, fun, and easy.

7. We love that we don’t need to have any idea of what we might be making when we purchase Layer Cakes. We know we can find something to do with them in Easy Layer-Cake Quilts!

8. We love Layer Cakes because we’d rather be sewing than cutting.

9. We love Layer Cakes because we get four times the fabric of a charm square.

10. We love Layer Cakes because they’re low-cal!

We hope you enjoy our latest book and can find projects to create something beautiful with your favorite Layer Cakes! For best results, be sure to read the “quilt recipes” carefully before baking/sewing!

Thanks to all who entered the drawing! The winner is Sandy, who says:

“I love that you get all of the fabric line in one package. They are more versatile than charm packs to me, too. (But I have been known to purchase charm packs too.) 😊”

We’ll email you about your prize, Sandy—congratulations!
