It happens to me every year. I have big plans to sew fun gifts for friends and family. Then the festive season hits, I run out of time, and it all goes down in flames!

This year, I plan on making just a couple of low-stress projects. During the long Thanksgiving weekend I’m going to turn off my phone, fire up my sewing machine, put a couple of holiday movies in the DVD player, and sew some gifts! Who’s with me? (PS: I’ll never tell if you decide that the gifts turn out so cute that they become gifts to yourself. My lips are sealed!)

Our sale books this week are perfect for getting the gift-making juices flowing!

Have you ever tried sewing with corduroy? I have and it’s yummy! It’s easy to work with, results in very cozy quilts, and yields cute (but still sturdy) bags. And—you guessed it—we have just the book for you! Uncommonly Corduroy by Stephanie Dunphy is full of velvety, texturey goodness.

  • I would say "coming along". I have all things planned, just need to find the time to get to the machine and finish things up.

  • My ideas are just that! All in my head. I should be an "idea" person. I have lots of ideas but can’t get them all done

  • A couple minutes here, a couple of minutes there. My secret is to find a corner where I can leave everything set up so I can sew whenever I have time.

  • I know what I want to make, have even purchased the fabric or know it is in my stash, all I have to do is put everything else aside and focus on Christmas gifts! Not so easy when I also own my own business designing electic jackets from vintage fabrics and teach sewing/quilting. Truly a matter of prioritizing, sticking to a schedule, and being realistic on how long each thing will take to make.

  • I just do birthdays not Christmas, that has helped.
