Welcome to “Scrap School!” Here at Martingale, we like to consider ourselves the “custodians” of this project, rather than professors. As book publishers, we’re honored to shine up all the parts and pieces behind the scenes to make all the fabulous quilts and their designers look their very best. Today on the “Scrap School” Instagram Hop, we’ll be sharing what goes into making can’t-miss-it books like Lissa Alexander’s latest book, “Scrap School.” Visit Instagram/martingaletpp and @modalissa and check out all of the fun.

Martingale is thrilled to showcase these fabulous quilts and their professors, um, designers. Check out the hashtags and final days of Scrap School on Instagram. The book “Scrap School” by Lissa Alexander (featuring a dozen ALL-NEW quilt patterns) is available now from ShopMartingale.com or wherever you buy books!

  • I wish I could have scrap sorter/cutter fairies visit and clean up my scraps. I would be more productive if I could get them under control. Help!

—Joye Cox on February 21, 2021
  • I am organizing my scraps using my accuquilt cutter. I love it when I need a lot of the same size piece. Currently, I am cutting my scraps into 2” squares. If they are too small, it’s time to toss!

—Susan robbins on February 21, 2021
  • Right now my "support item" is my stash of fabric! That means I don’t have to go out during this virus situation, but have been making quilts out of what I have. This book would go a very long way in helping me use up all that accumulated yardage – although I am having a very hard time cutting some of it up – LOL.

    —Kathy on February 21, 2021
  • My best ‘support staff’ item is my rotary cutter! I would never be able to make quilts without it!

—Barbara Johnson on February 21, 2021
  • My newly discovered support item is a wool pressing pad. It has changed how I look at the value of pressing seams, making a world of difference when matching points and subduing seam allowances. I surely appreciate this sewing tool.

    —Janie H on February 21, 2021
  • When I think of "support staff", I don’t think of just one person. There are many. I belong to several quilt groups and I leave with advice on a project (color, style, etc.), or a sewing tip or maybe even a sewing tip that might pertain to any sewing machine. Great friends, and comraderie, this is my "support staff" person(s).

  • My "support staff" during this pandemic is my sister-in-law Kathy C. We do "see" each and bounce ideas and thoughts about quilts and quilting off each other.

    —Linda S. Gidos on February 26, 2021
  • In the past my husband would have called me a fabric collector, not a quilter. Last year I made 8 quilts. He looks at them now and points out the fabrics that he really likes. He even said, "I can see how this can be addicting." He tolerates my never ending quest for fabric and designs.

    —Darlene on February 26, 2021

  • I’m all about using up so many scraps. I have to say my best Support "staff"/friend is my friend Pat. We like the same kind of quilts and help each other choosing our fabrics. We haven’t sewn together in a while because I work full time. I’m retiring 3/31 and hope her & I will be back into the sewing groove!

  • My support people are on YouTube, The Quilt Show, Just Get it Done quilts, Pat Sloan, to name a few. I’ve been sewing for a long long time and quilting for a long time and after watching these people on YouTube, I am learning new things…like when to put your thread vertical or horizontal on your sewing machine. WHO KNEW??? Mary from Country Threads has written about Scrap School in her newsletters. It looks like an awesome book!
