Ring in the season: 8 gorgeous spring quilts to make (and more)

From Here Comes SpringRaise your hand if you’re ready for spring to arrive! (We’re guessing that’s everyone?)

Let’s see, March 20 is the first day of spring. That means 25 more sleeps until it’s officially spring. Sigh.

But wait . . . we know a wonderful way to send winter packing—by making a springtime project! We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the season on the way, when the sun will be shining, the birds will be singing, and the flowers will start poking their colorful heads out of the soil. Oooh, we can’t wait!

You could make a little pillow to summon the flowers:

  • It feels like Spring today. It’s close to 70 with the birds singing wildly. We have a few more warm days to come and then it will drop back down into the 60’s again. We normally have one last freeze before tax day. North Carolina weather can be crazy.

  • In Cincinnati it is fairly warm and rainy. If all this rain was snow we would be snowed in. Thank God it is rain. That paper piecing is something for the future, right now I have to finish some stuff. Thanks for the emails.

  • -17 Celsius and blowing snow here in Prince George, BC, Canada. That’s 1.4 Fahrenheit, for our American friends. We’ve had a lot of snow this winter, especially the last three weeks (29 inches). Our streets are getting narrow and crossing intersections can be tricky because the snow piles on the curbs are higher than many cars. But I’d rather have clean white snow alternated with clear sunny days than have the grey rainy days of beautiful Vancouver. I DO look forward to spring, but after I clear the sidewalk for the postman, I can sit inside and sew!

—Carol Johnson on February 23, 2018
  • Currently 2 Celsius and attempting to snow in Victoria, BC – come on Spring.

—Susan MacLeod on February 23, 2018

—Marion Lisko on February 23, 2018
  • A chance of snow flakes later today. We have not had much rain this year so any moisture is welcome. Snow is a treat since it doesn’t happen often. It is a good day to stay inside and quilt!!

—Eileen Heinze on February 23, 2018
  • Spring has sprung here in southern Tennessee (Lawrenceburg). The daffodils have opened all over the yard, and I’ve picked several bouquets for inside the house. And there’s a bed of purple crocus at the base of the mailbox. Today is partly cloudy, but warm enough to turn off the heat and open a few windows to air out the house. Hooray for Spring!

—Candy Gawne on February 23, 2018
  • Cold with more snow on the way. Brrrrr

    —B. A. Fellers on February 23, 2018

  • Lots of much needed rain this week. About 7 inches at my house. Cold but fortunately above freezing.
The weeds are turning green with the rain. Grass is still brown. Why is that???
I especially like the paper priced sunrises. Been enjoying piecing curves recently.

    —Marcia on February 23, 2018
  • In the Phoenix, AZ, area, we have had a rather chilly week of weather here!! The lows have been in the 30s at night and in the low 50s during the day with some wind and rain too. Last week, we finally had a good amount of measurable rain, the first rain we have had since August of last year! Not too much sun here in the Valley of the Sun!

—Vicki Sprain on February 23, 2018
  • It’s cold with snow on the ground and no sign of a warming trend in the next two weeks. I am so ready for spring!

    —MoeWest on February 23, 2018
  • Temperatures have been so high above normal the past few weeks here in SE Georgia, 45 miles from the Atlantic. The pollen is so heavy on our front screened porch, my shoes made foot prints walking on it. The car also looks yellow.
Many flowers on various plants-trees have popped into bloom in past few days.
Yellow vintage roses, fuschia Japanese magnolias, yellow daffodils, snow drops, white tea tree olive, and azaleas are beginning to open. Staying inside and cleaning/organizing my sewing room while pollen is flying. They say we are going to have another cold spell before Winter is over. So sorry that some have had a snow-ice struggle across the northern USA. Spring is so inspiring to me.. Wait for it !

    —Marta on February 24, 2018
  • Winter snow warning. Ice and snow, a good reason to stay inside and quilt!

    —Nancy W on February 24, 2018
  • At home, there is snow on the ground. Here in Florida, the sun is shining and the weather is warm!

—Linda Towers on February 24, 2018
  • If you need someone to raise their hand in favor of winter, I will gladly! I like the rain for two good reasons. 1. For the green it brings. 2. Rainy days are sewing days! (And I do not like HOT weather.)

    —Karen on February 24, 2018
  • The weather was a bit cold but a beautiful sun was shining most of the day. Be so wonderful to see the days getting warmer!

—Helen Bowie on February 25, 2018
  • Hooray…. after a week of ice and snow it is once again raining in Washington today! ps my son is "working" in Hawaii for 3 weeks and calls me to tell me he is on the beach having a cup of coffee and it is 80 degrees! Did I raise him right or what?

    —nina on February 25, 2018
