📹 New video: bullion knot stitch step by step with Serena Boffa Soda

In January we shared this post showing how Small Wonders author Serena Boffa Soda uses embroidery to create adorable details in her tiny textile landscapes:

From Small Wonders

Those falling leaves, those soaring birds . . . those itty-bitty pumpkins!

Bullion stitchWe were lucky to meet Serena when she came to the United States, all the way from Italy, to attend Quilt Market. She shared with us two of her favorite embroidery stitches: the colonial knot and the bullion stitch. She uses the colonial knot for her sheep and foliage (watch her how-to video here) and the bullion stitch for her sweet pumpkins (right).

Here’s Serena to show you how easy it is to embroider cute ’lil pumpkins just like she does with her bullion stitch embroidery tutorial:

Now that you know the bullion knot stitch step by step, you’re ready to step into Serena’s teensy world for a “little” embroidery fun:

Small WondersOnly basic sewing and embroidery skills are needed to make the projects in Small Wonders, and Serena’s packed these pages with how-to for every step (so you don’t need to sweat the small stuff!). As you stitch you’ll learn what Serena knows to be true: it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Out of the simple techniques Serena uses in Small Wonders, which is your favorite to do?

  • Embroidery
  • Fusible appliqué
  • English paper piecing
  • Patchwork
