Week 2

Ready to start stitching? Go! For week two, begin stitching your cupcake papers by sewing on the dotted lines as instructed in the book Moda All-Stars: Mix it Up!. Then cut on the solid lines shown in the book*.  Yes, it’s that simple.

*Complete instructions are in the book Moda All-Stars: Mix it Up!, and the mini version cutting instructions are here in a free download courtesy of Carrie Nelson.

You only need to stitch 19 papers and it goes really fast!

To review week 1, check out our blog post from last week.

Here’s me, stitching:

*Important: Before you start stitching or cutting, be sure to read the complete instructions in the book.

Next up, trim your stitched units:

*As before, refer to the book for complete trimming instructions.

It’s fun to watch the pile grow!

Now, press open with the paper side down:

Finally, to complete week 2, find your favorite chair, start your current favorite streaming series/movie/audiobook/podcast, and rip off the papers:

Me, enjoying the last few minutes of Grease, while ripping the papers off.

If you’ve never ripped Cake Mix or Cupcake Mix recipe papers, here’s Carrie, demonstrating how fast and easy it is:

You can follow along for instructions each week by checking back here or watching us on Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to post pictures of your progress and use the tag #mixitupqal so we can see your posts. Hint: there may be another prize at the end, so be sure to use #mixitupqal to be entered.

DID YOU KNOW? "Moda is donating royalties for this book to Feeding America. With your purchase of the book, you’re helping end hunger around the United States. Together, for every dollar we donate, we’ll be helping provide as many as 10 meals for hungry children and adults."  Lissa Alexander.

Prize Alert! If you’ve been quilting along, post your progress for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate at ShopMartingale!  Simply post a pic on our Facebook or Instagram page each week.  The more pics of your progress, the more chances to win. Be sure to use #mixitupqal to be entered.  On February 3rd, we’ll draw a random winner from the pics that have been posted.

  • Thanks for sharing all the details. Also, thanks because now I’m mentally singing, You’re the one that I want, you are the one that I want, ooh, ooh, ooh, honey. ~smile~ Roseanne

  • I really like patterns that help me use my scraps by providing me with a design that does not look like a quilter desperate to use up some of the scraps. I love to see my scraps find a new home. Thanks to these talented artists that share their quilt ideas.

  • Would be terrific if video included a demonstration for those of us who are left-handed.
