It’s a bit of a puzzle to size a quilt for a particular bed because of all the decisions you have to make. Do you want your quilt to touch the floor, or stop high enough to show off a bed skirt? Do you want a pillow tuck? Do you have a pillow-top mattress? The math involved in making just the right-size quilt can be dizzying!

Standard Mattress Sizing Chart in Inches (Surface Only)
Mattress thicknesses vary. If you want your quilt to have a particular drop, measure the distance from the top of the mattress to that point.

Comforter Sizes Chart
Commercial comforters are generally a standard size and are designed to be used as a bed topper. They do not necessarily cover the box spring and do not have a pillow tuck. Their standard sizes are as follows:

Bedspread Sizes Chart
Commercial bedspreads cover the bed and fall almost to the floor. They also have a pillow tuck. Below are the measurements based on a 21″ drop and an 11″ pillow tuck. Note that if you have a pillow-top mattress, you may need a longer drop to cover the sides of the mattress and box spring.
