Masterpiece quilts with just 2 colors: Edyta Sitar’s latest (+ giveaway!)

Martingale is distributing books for a select group of other publishers, including Patches of Blue from Laundry Basket Quilts. This new book filled with 17 patterns by Edyta Sitar is just TWO beautiful—and it may inspire you to begin a TWO-color obsession!

Patches of Blue

You’ll discover TWO delightful ways to enjoy the classic combination of blue and white in Patches of Blue!

First: the patterns. Quilting star Edyta Sitar (aka Laundry Basket Quilts) has created 17 breathtaking designs in crisp, cool blues and whites that you can re-create with your own fabric collection. Check your stash—use hues of blues from baby to navy, and tones of white from snow and cream to eggshell and ivory. And all the lovely shades in between!

Quilts are shown in lavish photography, capturing the ambiance of Edyta’s new home in coastal southern California. The ocean, the sky, the breeze, the quilts—all a spectacular sight!

Second: the antiques. In a gallery of quilter’s eye candy at the front of the book, you’ll find photos of gorgeous blue-and-white quilts from yesteryear, shared from the private collections of Edyta and her friends, plus a few of Edyta’s more recent quilts. From simple Snowball quilts to glorious renditions of Ocean Waves, Compass, and Wedding Ring, you’ll love peeking into these pages of quilt history, back when blue and white was just as timeless as it is today.

The book is a TWO-for-one treat: 128 pages of true blue-and-white bliss!

Edyta SitarIn the introduction to Patches of Blue, Edyta writes, “Blue is my favorite color. The combination of blue and white together is so fresh, and I enjoy the simplicity of creating quilts with patches of blue against a canvas of lights. The result is relaxing, inviting, simple, yet elegant. It’s a color combination that’s been popular for centuries and quilters today seem to continue their love affair with it.”

When you peruse Patches of Blue, there’s a good chance your favorite color might become blue, too!

Edyta’s Blue Spruce quilt hangs on the wall next to her grandmother’s laundry basket, which inspired her company name.

  • Cornflower blue is my pick! About 20 years ago I was shopping for a winter coat when I tried on a wool coat about this color. At least 3 customers, not salespeople, came up to me to tell me I had to buy that coat because the color looked so good on me. I did! It was interesting to me that Edyta was displaying her quilts on old wooden ladders. I have been saving my uncle’s 12 ft. wooden apple orchard ladder for just this purpose. Now we have a townhouse we are renovating for our retirement with a volume ceiling. Finally I can fit the ladder againts the wall and hang blue and white quilts on it (the walls will be yellow). Thank you Edyta for providing the gorgeous fabric for this contest! And Thank you Martingale for sponsoring it!

  • Well….to be honest, I’m kind of a mix.mix. I’ved loved Baby Blue for years, it was my favorite blue, but as I ‘matured’ (get that? NOT got OLDER, I MATURED…I like that better☺), CORNFLOWER BLUE has taken the #1 spot. But the problem is that when you see ANY of those colors in Edyta Sitar’s quilts, her work is so spectacular you forget what your favorite shade was, and just realize how beautiful the quilt you’re looking at really is and your new favorgood.hade if blue just changed. Edyta can do that to you…she’s very, very good.

    —Nancy on October 18, 2017
  • I love mixing up the blues to create various moods. I recently completed a quilt that had all different blue strips ( mostly medium and dark batiks with a few lighter ones thrown in) with spaces every once in a while to brighten and set off all the blues. My brother-in-law requested a quilt with all blues and preferably on the dark side. It’s gone to be quilted and I think he will enjoy it. I have another one in the gathering of fabric stage which I think will be more traditional and perhaps in the civil war era genre. And I adore aquas and turquoises as well.

  • Although I love all colors of blue and am a believer in Ginny Beyers advice about using both light light and dark darks along with the medium colors in a quilt, from your definition I guess I am a Cornflower blue kind of gal. I’m retired and love my easy going laid back kind of life right now. I’m a longtime Edyta Sitar fan and love most everything she does. I got to attend one of her trunk show lectures a few years ago and was amazed at her productivity and the beauty of her quilts.
