How do you celebrate Earth Day in your day-to-day life—recycle, ride your bike, carpool . . . make scrap quilts? Tell us in the comments!
Sale ends Monday, April 24 (PT).
I will be making charity quilts from my scraps for our local group called, Comfort Covers. We donate these quilts to local hospitals and nursing homes. It’s a great way to recycle scraps into covers for those who need and appreciate them.
—Marge on April 21, 2017We recycle everything from glass and plastic to electronics, including fabric scraps. If they are too small for my personal use, scraps go into a program at school where students can make collages. Some are taken to the prison which has a great quilting class for inmates to make and donate quilts to the needy.
—Linda Towers on April 21, 2017I donate fabric and batting scraps that are too small to use to a charity that sells them to a recycler. It uses the cash received to support community programs. Scraps big enough to use (2″ sq. minimum) go into charity quilts distributed through my Guild.
Other than that, we recycle everything from glass, plastic and paper to tree trimmings, weeds and dead bushes. We’re not yet into composting.
—Sandy May on April 21, 2017Divide and propagate host as in my shade garden! It’s so satisfying.
¡Feliz Patchwork!
Translation: Use the car only as an essential, turn on the light as little as possible and pull out the curtains to see in daylight, use energy-saving light bulbs … .. That every day. Happy Earth Day! Happy Patchwork!
—Margarita on April 22, 2017I would love to have a copy of your new quilt book The Splendid sampler!
—Marlene Wittmann on April 22, 2017I recycle as much as possible. I try to use up my scrap fabric in my quilts.
