  • I didn’t think I had a favorite color that I use consistently but when I look at the projects I have made, there always seems to be some shade of blue in them!

    My all time favorite color combination is pink and gray, though. I want to make a two color quilt using them together.

  • I steer away from Civil War type colors and love bold, bright colors used with neutrals to tone things down a bit. Tend to use a lot of greens with a single unexpected pop of color as well which I find relaxing.

I do have good colour sense, I think, so I do know what goes with what, but limiting the palette takes discipline. The wisest piece of colour advice i ever received is that if a quilt is falling a bit flat, add a small amount of gold/yellow and it brightens it up.

  • Many of my quilts include neutrals, more often cream than white. I love red, and I love blues and greens together, and I love brights with black or white. I don’t love reproduction or civil war colours, but sometimes they are just the right touch for a scrappy quilt. I guess I just love colours.

  • It depends on the season, my mood and who I am making the quilt for. Recently my Mother who is ninety with dementia asks for a quilt in blue. I quickly put one together for her. I loved they way it turned out. When I gave it to her she asked why I made it blue. I told her she requested blue. She said, "I did?" We both had a good laugh. But it is displayed in her room and I often find her just staring at it and rubbing her hand over it like it is a prize possession.
