Stitching resolutions

Martingale's Knit and Crochet Friday

From Knitting the Chill Away’Tis the season for resolutions. Do you make them? Do you keep them?

Over the years, I’ve learned that setting strict resolutions is a surefire path to failure. Rather than declaring, “I’m going to lose 30 pounds by summer,” I go with, “I’m going to spend more time exercising so I can stay healthy.” That’s much more doable and has nothing to do with the number on the scale.

Same thing goes for knitting and crochet. I’m sure at one time or another we’ve all declared, “I’m going to finish all my UFOs this year.” Or, “I’m going to use all the yarn in my stash before I buy anything new.” Never happened. Pretty sure it never will.

This year, how about making a resolution that focuses more on fun and learning than on things you must do? Here are some examples to get you started:

  • In 2014, I’m going to _________ (learn to crochet/try colorwork/make a pair of socks/learn to sew smoother seams/make my first sweater).
  • For every UFO I complete in 2014, I’m going to treat myself to new ball of yarn, a new book, or a new set of crochet hooks or knitting needles.
  • This year, I’m going to spend a bit of my time knitting/crocheting for charity.

For any of these resolutions, decide what you want to learn, make, or contribute. Hang a picture of it by your yarn stash as a reminder. Sign up for a class. Ask a friend to join you. It’s much easier to work out, eat less, or knit more when you’re doing it with a buddy!
