Thanks for stopping by for the weekly Quirky Question—where questions are just for fun, your answers are always welcome, and you could win an eBook for free!
(Right: “Charming Garden” make-in-a-day charm quilt by Sarah Bisel)
Whether it’s a full-fledged studio, half a bedroom, or a corner of the kitchen table, we all need a creative space to call our own. And let’s admit it—how that space is kept says a lot about our creative life! Which leads to today’s question:
If your creative space had a nickname, what would it be called?
Post your answer in the comments before noon (PST) on Monday, March 11, for your chance to win. The winning comment will be posted on Wednesday, March 13, along with the next question.
Last week’s Quirky Question was, “When you’re deep in your creative zone, what’s the best way for someone to get your attention?” Here’s the winning response:
“Bring me a bowl of Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream, especially my favorite brand, and I will drop everything. Of course my focus will then be on the ice cream, so it is best to get whatever you need from me before you give me the spoon!”
Last week’s winning comment was written by Pam. Congratulations, Pam—look for an email about your free eBook.

I would call my creative space Mayhem. So many beautiful fabrics and tools for longarm quilting, so little space.
—Bettie Johnsosn on March 6, 2013At the moment I’m calling my studio the Pit. I’m preparing to leave for a quilting retreat and there is stuff everywhere. Not the way I usually like to have my space.
—DebrafromMD on March 6, 2013My Personal Paradise.
—JoAnne on March 6, 2013I call my creative space "The Therapy Room". My husband calls it "The Hoarder Room". I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
—Judy Beebe on March 6, 2013I have to craft in my eat-in kitchen/dining room so I would call it "Oh,if only I had an extra room!"
—Geri on March 6, 2013BLITZ. That would be the name for my space right now. It’s a combination of ongoing projects, donated fabrics for charity quilts, preparations for retreat and a deperate need for sorting.
—Fiona McMillin on March 6, 2013Sheila’s Sweatshop. When I get in there, I HAVE to produce, or suffer the consequences (in my own mind, of course….)
—SheilaPainter on March 6, 2013"Piece and Quiet"
—Sallie on March 6, 2013While I’m in the middle of a creative project, my sewing room should be called Monsoon Mary. It may not be a rain storm, but it looks like a really strong wind went through! I clean it up after each project, but while I’m working I want everything I need where I can see it and reach it easily. And that includes the fabric scraps from the project. I never know when I might need one for something.
—marycarolyn on March 6, 2013My sewing room is my "haven".
—Karen on March 6, 2013I can create to my heart’s content during my "me" time: no phones, no dishes, no laundry, etc.
LOL, we always refer to it as my Disaster Area, but if I could name it and everyone would use that name it would be called the Bird’s Nest.
—Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts on March 6, 2013The Guest Room!
—Allison Evrard on March 6, 2013My quilting room/office is a whole room, but I think of it as My Free Space. I can quilt, sew, read, write, craft – I’m free to do whatever I want in there, and I’m free from the rest of the chaos of the house.
—Sharon A on March 6, 2013I’ll have to call it Jaded. I’m trying to use up well-aged stash, but can’t get inspired.
—Dot on March 6, 2013Mesopotamia, its my mess and mine to tame as I see fit
—Sheila Squires on March 6, 2013my mess nest
—lawana whaley on March 6, 2013The Babe Cave (as opposed to the Man Cave)
—Tonia on March 6, 2013I would call it NO BOUNDS, there would be no boundaries to what I am doing and learning.
—cathy jones on March 6, 2013Total creative craziness!
—sharon on March 6, 2013That would be "the dining room when no company is coming."
—Carol on March 6, 2013"The Hobbit Hole" A small space where good things are created
—ann on March 6, 2013I always tell my husband I’m going down to the "Q.C."…the quilt cave!
—Margaret Murray on March 6, 2013Material girls world! Due to the fact I have 2 full walls of material in there.
—Donna Johnson on March 6, 2013Its my Lady Cave! I’m quilting a sign to hang outside the room now!!! But You have say lady cave just like Leon Phelps says ladies man! It’s hysterical and fun!
—Amy on March 6, 2013Adaptable! I turned it back into a guest room for 2 young men in 5 minutes.
—Cindy Wienstroer on March 6, 2013My solitary space….my alone space. No one messes with my space! My sanctuary….my sanity….my escape….
—Andrea Thalmann on March 6, 2013right now we call my space the War zone, my granddaughters spent a couple of days and wanted to check out all the cool pictures on fabric!! they are 1 and 4. Honestly the job of re-sorting everything is more than a little overwhelming.
—Bernadette McAllister on March 6, 2013Oh, but mine does have a name! We used to joke about being the "bear" family, you know…mama bear, papa bear, baby bear. When we moved into our new home and my sewing room was a wonderful third floor space with a view of the mountain and lots of tree-tops, I nicknamed it, "The Bear’s Nest." (It’s also known as Mom’s Playroom.)
—Beth Strand on March 6, 2013The Hobby Room, tall and stacked (just like me!!)…..
—Carol Jones on March 6, 2013Order within Chaos would be the name of my sewing room.
I know where to find what I need, but to someone else, it would look to be chaos.
I just need to find the pieces and parts that I am working on, not anyone else.
Thanks.
—Anne on March 6, 2013I call my sewing room!!! "Memere’s Creative Hen Studio"
—Priscilla on March 6, 2013If I were to name my sewing room, I would call it "Claire’s Lair."
—Claire Dorenkamp on March 6, 2013I would call my creative space "My Happy Space". I dream, create, quilt, run my hands over fabrics and just have a great time!!
—Mary from FL on March 6, 2013Gal Cave! It has everything I need to survive.
—Barbara on March 6, 2013I would call my creative space "my secret getaway". Even though my studio, an extra bedroom, is full of fabric, patterns, yarn, and usually at least a couple of kittens, it’s a peaceful, relaxing place to unwind. There is nothing better than spending some time there sewing or dreaming of new projects with all of my fabrics and sewing supplies surrounding me.
—Dawn DeMulling on March 6, 2013That’s easy, "Therapy." I always tell my husband, "I’m going to therapy now!" He knows what I mean.
—Mary Ann on March 6, 2013I call it my little slice of heaven. No matter how neat and tidy or wild and wicked it is its all mine!
—Lisa on March 6, 2013I would call it "Finally". After many months (dare I say years?) of trying different configurations and pieces of used furniture to get it right, my DH said, "You love the kitchen after the pricey remodel, where everything is new and works together, so why are you trying to "make do" with stuff that doesn’t work in your sewing room?" Brilliant! Here comes the wall of IKEA cabinets and a few repurposed pieces that DO work and "finally" I am at peace when I walk in and sit down to sew!
—Jan on March 6, 2013My creative space is the dining room table, my family wants to get it back to eat there but no luck. So my creative space would be called "My Cup Runneth Over."
—Shelley McClure on March 6, 2013My sewing space is our single car garage converted – I call it the/my "Girl Cave!!
—Marilyn Schrader on March 6, 2013Where’s It?
—Deborah Herold on March 6, 2013Since I have machines & fabrics & tools in a guest bedroom, our library, our office, the living room, dining room & master bathroom, that is a very good name for it!
Happy Clutter is the name of my space.
—Valerie A. Clark on March 6, 2013It would be called the dig. I refer to it as organized chaos. Things are in stratas or layers similar to what can be found in an archiological dig. I have tried cleaning it and find that it stifles my creativeness and I can’t find anything. I once sorted all of my fabric by color. I found that I rarely strayed from my comfort zones in color and color combinations. When the fabric is just stacked every which way I see color and fabric combinations that I would not have previously thought of. It’s a mess but it’s my mess. Would someone ever think of telling a artist that their paints made a mess?!
—Kyle on March 6, 2013I can’t claim credit, but my very talented friend Amanda escapes to her creative space, named "AmandaLand". Michele doesn’t lend itself to a similar nickname!
—Michele Van Epps on March 6, 2013Valhalla, playground of the gods….
—Pam Chavez on March 6, 2013I call mine my Hobby Hut!
—Sarah Fraser on March 6, 2013My creative space is definitely "HEAVENLY SPACE" when in my sewing room. All is good, quiet, and peaceful.
—Karen Huffman on March 6, 2013My husband built me a wonderful sewing studio – a palace of a log cabin with two rooms, purpose built cupboards, space for the quilting frame, the sewing machines and a smaller room for sitting in next door. We call it "The Hut"! Nothing could be further from the truth!
—Jan Allston on March 6, 2013I call it "Debbie’s Sewing Studio." In fact, I am getting ready to make a quilted wallhanging with those words embroidered on by machine. Debbie in WV
—Deborah Harmon on March 6, 2013Scrap Shack!
—Sheila Craft on March 6, 2013I think if I had to name my so-called studio right this minute, I would have to call it "A Size Too Small Shoe". We recently moved and have downsized so although I still have a room of my own, it is way smaller including the closet. So, I am having to use a shoe horn to try to get what I can of my stash and sewing tools into the room and closet. I suppose it will all work out in the end but it is going to take one of Jack’s beanstalk Giant’s shoehorns to do it.
—Karen L. on March 6, 2013I wish I had a quiet ultra-tidy room, but I am more creative with fabrics and trims visible and not packed away. I’d call my space the "Hullabaloo Room" because there’s always a lot going on!
—Rita on March 6, 2013I refer to my room as "My Vacation Area"….I’m so relaxed & zoned out when in there that time just flies. I turn on some good music or NPR & create to my heart’s content…you got to love it!
—Dorothy I. Dishman on March 6, 2013My creative space is "The nest". I’ve been able to carve out a cozy corner under the eaves of the house with an east-facing window. It is painted a sunny yellow and is filled with works in progress. No matter what the weather, it is a perfect safe-haven-snug in winter with a Tiffany lamp and a leather chair ideal to sit in and knit or cool in the summer with the screen open and sunshine and a cool breeze coming in while I paint with fabric at my sewing machine. No matter what my mood, I know I can step into that space and relax.
—Shelley on March 6, 2013"woman cave"
—Peggy Villanueva on March 6, 2013Crossed Paws … I "share" my space with my rescue pooch who, when she visits me, lies on the floor with her front paws crossed … I have named my quilting home-cottage business after her … Crossed Paws Quilter
—Linda H on March 6, 2013"MY living room!" I recently saw a friends living space. She used the largest room in the house as her space. I thought about the built in shelves and drawers that were in my living room. I thought about how accessible it all is to me. My children and husband rarely use it because they have carved their own domain. So I went to the back corners of the deep closets and hauled out all those things that I have to find with a flashlight. Viola, now I have a magnificent storage space at my finger tips. And it is so funny that I sent most of what was in those drawers and cabinets to the good will. I was storing junk or things I rarely use. If you walk into my house now you wouldn’t even know that all my supplies are in the cabinets and drawers. Now THAT is living! I LOVE IT!! It is MY LIVING room!
—Mo Pfister on March 6, 2013micro anomaly. A whole lotta stuff just spews forth. The space is only about 4x4ft but is obviously capable of producing many, many beautiful things to litter the rest of the world with.
—veronica geiger on March 6, 2013Scattered, smothered and covered!
—Donna on March 6, 2013My favorite name for my quilt room is:
A PATHWAY THROUGH THE FABRIC FOREST
And that is exactly what it looks like…..:)
—sue on March 6, 2013I’d call my studio "Heaven on Earth". Regardless of what’s going on in life, when I enter that space those things fade away and all is good.
—Janice on March 6, 2013The Fiber Space.
—Michelle McCrillis on March 6, 2013I love my quilting space! I call it my chill out room. Thanks for the chance to win.
—Judy Bowes on March 6, 2013My room would be called Happy Land! I feel happy every time I walk in there cause it is sunny and it makes me smile!
—Denise Cabral on March 6, 2013"PEACE By Piece,Up On Cripple Creek". My "studio" is a back bedroom, painted yellow overlooking a hillside with a creek at the bottom of the hill.
—Cheryl Mandeville on March 6, 2013"End of the Road". It seems that when my husband doesn’t know what to do with something, or if someone stops by suddenly my room becomes the dumping station. Very frustrating, but I’ve been known to do it too.
—Rosalie on March 6, 2013For a lot of reasons, at this point in time my personal studio I’m calling my "7th Heaven"
—Doris Pontigo on March 6, 2013My cretive space is in the basement, so I would call it The Dungeon.
—Carolann on March 6, 2013My work space would be called "The Crafty Zone". My husband says my quilting or crafts have taken over every room in the house. I like to think of it as organized chaos. I know where everything is. I just need more space than he thinks I need.
—Julie B on March 6, 2013I would call my studio "Organized Chaos"! I know where everything is located and I spent quite a lot of time making my space as efficient as possible. I just received a new sewing cabinet fo my birthday and I’m in heaven!
—Susan Everhart on March 6, 2013My creative space has a nickname,my husband and kids call it mcgville after our last name, mcgurn.
—linda mcgurn on March 6, 2013My sewing room is very small but functional- I tell my family I’m off to my "retreat". My place of serenity. It is known as Mom’s Retreat!
—Stacey Larson on March 6, 2013We call my room – Gramma’s Happy Place! Cause when Gramma is in there – she is always smiling
—Bonny on March 6, 2013I call my creative area my "rotating thinktank" because I usually have 3 to 4 projects going at one time. I work on them all for a while and then move on to one of my other projects. I go from making some of the 7 different style quilt squares for my first large block quilt, to making a Anamie costume for my 20 yr old grandaughter for comicon that I make made my own pattern for, to baby & adult bibs for our craft faire to raise money to making cushion covers for a friend that is moving and needs them soon. I love the carzyness….I work better under pressure !!
—Joanne Navarro on March 6, 2013My official space is nicknamed "The Yellow Room" because it is painted a bright sunshinny yellow. It could also be called "Nita’s Happy Place." If you asked my husband, though, he would say my creative space is called "The Entire House." lol!
—Nita on March 6, 2013Help – I am drowning in fabric, tools, and supplies.
—Ellen on March 6, 2013After the Shower – because I get many of my most creative ideas in the shower – not the best place, though, for art or quilting.
—Jane on March 6, 2013The cyclone of terror because I get so involved in sewing that my fabrics fear me! think dirt devil
—Darlene Khosrowpour on March 6, 2013My space is called "organized shambles". I know where everything is but everyone else thinks it’s a big mess. Definately not what you see in the magazines, I don’t think these people actually sew in their rooms.
—Connie B on March 6, 2013My space is called The Organized Chaos Room. Some parts are totally organized while other parts are crazy. But the funny thing is that I can find what ever I need.
—Marsha Nelson on March 6, 2013Right now, I’m spresd throughout the house…longarm in livingroom, 3 sewing/embroidery machines, commercial embroidery machine (12 needle), serger in the enclosed patio…have quilts laid out on beds in both extra rooms (one waiting for a backing choice, 4 in other room waiting for binding)…and a cellar/basement full of boxes, bins, bags and shelves of fabric…Oh, and books, magazines everywhere. I’d call it a growing monster at this point!
—Margie Campbell on March 6, 2013My sewing space would be called "Organized Chaos." There are lots of things packed in boxes and baskets and I have to dig through them when I want to work on a project, but it’s all in one room! A small sewing space shared with a guest room is better than nothing!
—Valerie on March 6, 2013"The abyss." I work in a spare bedroom. When I am working,I have piles of fabric that I have auditioned for the project. The ones that are possible are piled on the bed. I have a broad definition of possible.
I’m planning to move to a room in my finished basement soon.It will,I hope, be called the "no dog hair" room.
—terry appel on March 6, 2013Simple – Sewing Room along with the computer room – used to be a master bedroom, as the kids left, we changed the bedrooms around and now the sewing room is what was the master bedroom…Lots of natural light and wildlife outside, complete with a chair for the dog, Noel.
—sue on March 6, 2013I call it "My Playroom" because I have all my toys in there!
—Lynn on March 6, 2013My creative space is CC – for Controlled Chaos.
—Maria Winter on March 6, 2013My creative space would be The Looney Tunes Testing Grounds. It is filled with creativity, fabric frequently dropping in like the Acme Safe Co. on poor, unsuspecting Wiley Coyote, ideas and stash that frequently explode all over the room (Roadrunner + dynomite = poor Wiley Coyote again) resulting in a room that far too frequently looks like the Tasmanian Devil just blew through!
—Peggy Forbes on March 6, 2013Hmmm, I guess that since I’ve named my sewing machine Jack and my midarm Jill, my creative space would have to be "The Hill". Never thought of a name for that before as my sewing room toggles between being the cats’ room, my workout room and my sewing room!
—Janet on March 6, 2013I have to say mine is called the "Hell Hole!" There is always several quilt projects going on at once and it is literally a "Hell Hole!" Material, supplies, quilt books, patterns, etc., etc., etc., EVERYWHERE!!! But I wouldn’t have it any other way, I LOVE it!!!!
—Laura Ball on March 6, 2013Do Not Disturb MIND IN CREATIVE MODE JUST A SMOKIN
—Priscilla Obermeyer on March 6, 2013creative chaos zone
—Angela on March 6, 2013My Granddaughter dubbed my creative space "the making room." And so it has been ever since.
—Nancy Van Deusen on March 6, 2013Chaos – My room has ideas floating around all over. There’s the fabric pulled out for a specific idea. Then there are the projects in process in totes, no the design wall, on the cutting mat. Patterns or drawing on top of the sewing table and cutting table with ideas as they flow from my mind. It’s a wonder I end up getting quilting done.
—Marguerite Namdar on March 6, 2013My Heaven on Earth
—Alice on March 6, 2013The All-Purpose (I’d Rather Have a Craft Room Than a Bedroom) Room!
—Cindy on March 6, 2013Yes…It’s true. I ignored the rules about keeping a bedroom soothing and relaxing…just for sleeping. It’s definitely a craft room first, and a bedroom second…
My creative space is tucked into a corner of the spare bedroom. It is filled with objects I like, my sewing machine and table, sewing and knitting supplies. I’d call it my Robin’s Nest.
—Robin Adair-Marshall on March 6, 2013I’d call my creative space "stash happy " I just organized so things looks great !
—Sheila on March 6, 2013My space is called "IT". IT is a very old card table sitting in the middle of my living room.Yes, IT is the first thing you see when you walk in the house. IT also has is the favorite sitting area gor Greasy the cat so she can chase thread or fabric when I’m trying to sew. IT sure needs improvement!!I need IT to change to SPACE!!
—Jane Ritz on March 6, 2013Mine is called the "scrap heap."
—Billie on March 6, 2013I call it my creative outlet, my husband calls it the money pit. Either way, I love it.
—Kathy Stoessner on March 6, 2013Formally it is "Ellie’s Studio" but today it probably would be called a disaster site.
—Ellie on March 6, 2013I would call it Heaven!
—Gail on March 6, 2013I would call my creative space Fibber McGee’s Closet as there’s a lot everything in it! I just retired so I’m hopping to get it cealned out and organized soon.
—Mary Kay O'Neill on March 6, 2013My space would be called "Taz". (after the
—JENNIFER on March 6, 2013Tazmanian Devil!!!) A whirlwind of creativity.
I would call my little space Serenity. Every time I enter, I feel so relaxed and inspired.
—MaryD on March 6, 2013I would have to name my creative space after myself "Grace" this is because it always represents me. At times it is nice and organized with the sun shining in brightly. This is when I have done the work to be organized and focused. Other times it is most messy because I am pulling different fabric out, to put together for a project my wheels are spinning to do. However, even at the times it appears to be a big mess; I still know what I’m doing with everything and where I’m going with it. So it doesn’t matter what other’s may think, as long as I know everything about me and my creative space.
—Grace on March 6, 2013My creative space is called "The Sunroom". It has 9 windows and is on the southeast corner of the house so it gets lots of sun in the winter months. In summer, it is shaded by three large maple trees. This keeps it cool and I’m in heaven when I’m in there working on my quilts! I bet you thought it was a "tanning parlor"!:)
—Judi McGuire on March 6, 2013I would call my space Retreat from Choas. It is where I have some peace and quiet from the Husband and animals for awhile. they know when I am in there to leave me alone. LOL
—Valerie LaFevers on March 6, 2013"Creative chaos" Always something fun happening in there:)
—Sonya Wood on March 6, 2013"Enjoyment" I get such enjoyment in my sewing room! It has lots of light and I sew and create all day if possible. My little television keeps me company and time stands still.
—Pat Harrison on March 6, 2013Bobby Sue… a misplaced southern girl.
—Sharon Theriault on March 6, 2013Creative Chaos
—Janet on March 6, 2013I guess my creative space should be called "Bernie’s half of the spare bedroom that creeps over into her husband’s office half whenever she can appropriate it, but never gives up any space when he needs the big table."
—Bernie S on March 6, 2013Actually, since I spend half my time in Ohio and the other half in North Carolina I guess I could call my two workspaces "The War Between The Stashes". I can be sure if I want something it is always in the other stash in the other state. And,, unfortunately, both places look like battlefields!
—Linda on March 6, 2013Definitely a work in progress. NOW it is in the middle of a remodel and being moved to another room. ughhhhh. All the tubs of fabric, all the patterns, a bookcase full of quilt and sewing books, a great sewing cabinet and a newer sewing machine, containers of every kind of sewing supply invented by man including vintage,AND extra sewing machines. THEN we come to the regular furniture, bookcases, dresser full of trims and supplies and more fabric, the iron and board, the shelves with the TV and boxes of regular fabrics, and on and on and on. Oh yeah, the 5 foot high roll of batting. Anybody wanna come over and help?? Please???
—Adeline on March 6, 2013Quirky Question: My answer is "Mental Health Dept."
—Carole Wilson on March 6, 2013My creative space is called my "Happiness Zone", because when I’m in my studio, I’m very happy. I just rearranged my furniture to create more room and just love it’s new look. I’m into knitting and crochet, quilting and fiber arts, mixed medium art and beading, so I’ve got to have specific storage areas for each craft.
—Susan Shane on March 6, 2013Mary’s Spot, that’s about all the space left in my sewing area. One day I really must get organized!
—Mary on March 6, 2013Well it’s mine and it’s in the corner of the house and I try to be creative sooooo…Carol’s Creative Corner.
—Carol V. on March 6, 2013My creative space would be called Moving Choas. I don’t have a designated space for it so I work at the dining room unless we have company coming then I work in the upstairs bedroom unless we have company staying then it goes in the closet & under the bed and I look at my books to inspire me to start my next UFO.
—Laura G. on March 6, 2013What would my space be called? Mom’s Creative Office. It has my computer, quilting projects and Family History projects. Sometimes all three going at once! My Family History shelves is covered with my latest quilt project right now.
—Mary McCoy on March 6, 2013Purple Passion would be the nickname. I love purple and I’m passionate about my quilting. I get completely lost in my room of tranquility and all the worries of the world disappear, while I’m in my favourite room planning or working on a project. Peaceful, relaxing but challenging is my motto for my ‘purple passion sewing room’.
—Doreen on March 6, 2013If your creative space had a nickname, what would it be called?
The nickname of my creative space:
EUREKA!
—ANAHÍ on March 6, 2013I call my creative space/kitchen table the heap, as that is what it is sometimes, things get piled so high, I have no choice but to clear it off, so I can sit and be creative!
—Linda Cartwright on March 6, 2013While the hand-carved sign (made by my husband) on the door says "Karen’s Creative Corner" to match my initials, the truth is that this room is my "Sanctuary." It is also known as my hideaway, studio, escape, the bonus room and formerly the playroom (by my grandkids). I am most fortunate to have the room over the garage all to myself to spend hours at a time drooling over my material, finding new fabric combinations, reading my quilt books, working on my longarm, sewing with a friend or laying out a quilt on the design wall. It is truly my haven away from everything with the added bonus of lovely views of my front and back yards, and sun streaming in from the east and west. I just love it. If it had a bathroom, I’d never leave!
—Krafty KC on March 6, 2013Chaos!
—Shirley C on March 6, 2013Bliss!
—carmen on March 6, 2013I actually call my studio "Area 51″.
—Liisa on March 6, 2013I would call it "Sewfully Made" as that is the name I use when I sell my handmade items.
—Carolyn Keefer on March 6, 2013We create in our "Workshop on Wheels"- living fulltime in an RV my husband & I manage to fit our fabric stash, two laptop stations, quilting/sewing machine, embroidery machine, cutting/pressing area & 4′x8′ design wall into our 35′ motorhome.
—Barb L. on March 6, 2013We also have two metal detectors, several RC planes, 2 HAM radios, a funny hat collection and two small dogs. Following the good weather, we love sharing our passion to create by offering classes along the way and donate most of our creations to charity.
I call my sewing studio my "Attitude Adjustment Area"…no matter how stressed or down I am, give me a few hours in there & I’m happy & have often resolved the mental conflict I was worrying over.
DH refers to as "The Pink Cave". LOL
—Rettabug on March 6, 2013I call mine my "Woman Cave"!!
—Connie on March 6, 2013I call this little room "tornado", because everyone (not me , of course) seems to thinks they may have missed a tornado in our area. The nicest thing they say is "oh, my" . I have invited some to please come over when it picked up, but I don’t think that they really believe me. Anyway, they all seem fascinated by my tiny, chaotic haven.
—donnie tillison on March 6, 2013My DH refers to it as my "woman cave"!
—Gwen W on March 6, 2013I would have to call it the "public space" since any and everyone walks through it to get somewhere else, not a privite space for sure.
—Alexe Toups on March 6, 2013Need Help.It is way past "pick up and sew.
—Evelyn Horn on March 6, 2013My space would be called "Technicolor Soul". Absolutely everything in my creative space (regardless of how it appears to the layman) is perfectly positioned to inspire, refresh, evoke sentiment, recall and express what words cannot – my innermost soul. I often say, "I have the soul of an artist with none of the talent." But when I’m in my creative environment, with little effort I become artistically prolific!
—Ro K. on March 6, 2013I call my sewing room "MY HAPPY PLACE". Whenever I’m in my happy place all problems seem to not bother me–even if I’m ripping something out.

—weze aka louise raymond on March 6, 2013The Building

Mine is The Girls Cave"! I have a super room in the lower level of a walk-out townhouse. My husband had a glass insert door installed so I could get a little natural light and not feel that I was in a real cave.
—Kathy on March 6, 2013With plenty of overhead lighting, lots of storage and great cupboards I am in sewers heaven!
I call mine the Quilt Haus. It’s a large room behine the garage that has four large closets, an HQ quilting machine, a cutting table, my workbench, & to large tables for when my friends come to sew. I love it. It does need cleaning but have been too busy sewing to worry about it.
—Ann Marie Oswalt on March 6, 2013Mine is DreamLand. So many time it is just fun to sit there and DREAM about all the projects I would like to do and know it is just a dream, I will probably not get them done.
—Nancy Hudson on March 6, 2013The Sanity Studio — where I work, play, dream, scheme, sew, quilt, knit, scrapbook — and I control the TV remote control. Recently, I was headed to my room to work on a project and our granddaughter said to my husband, "Don’t let her go in there … we won’t see her again all weekend!"
—Jane Cisneros on March 6, 2013I call my creative space, "The Craft-Cave."
—Lena on March 6, 2013Caution things that enter here might never be found !!
—Lynn Sibley on March 6, 2013My creative space ALREADY HAS A NICKNAME. It is "www.peach" which is an acronym for With Window to the World: Peaceful Elbowroom in the Attic Cave Hideaway.
My creative space is a little studio just outside the attic. I have a window that looks out on an ornamental cherry tree. When it’s in bloom in the early spring, the blossoms are the same color as the walls in my studio. The birds and squirrels keep me entertained as I sit at my sewing machine or stand trimming the quilt blocks to size with my rotary cutter. I have peach scented candles to remind me that fresh peaches will be in season soon here in my home state of Georgia. My creative space is closed off to the rest of the world with pocket doors that look out on the game room. When the doors are shut, my little attic cave hideaway is respected because I close my lace curtains. Even my little grandchildren will knock on the glass panes before entering. They are always welcome because they love to help me come up with designs, colors to put together, and we have sewing lessons!
—VickiGene on March 6, 2013Because I live in a retirement village, I have limited space but IT WORKS!
—Wilma Wehrle-Irvin on March 6, 2013My sewing machine (although most of my quilts are hand quilted) is in the corner of a room which we walled off at the end of our garage with wonderful track lighting above. It’s simply called " Salvation "
Mine would be called..ok is called "MG’s Happy Sewing Castle" stocked w/some dark chocolate & lots of lovely fabric of all kinds & of course every notions that you can possibly think of.
—Merry on March 6, 2013I think I already have this… see you later…off to my castle!
The Nest is what implies. I roost there daily, surrounded by my fabric, sewing machine and tools, and let my creativity fly. I can be as neat or sloppy as I want and not worry about fabric piles or errant threads or pins for days and weeks on end. Oh, the bliss!
—Nancy H on March 6, 2013My grandson calls my sewing room "his train room" since I have his Thomas the train railroad set up at the entrance to my sewing room. I have to step over it each and every time I enter the room so I always am reminded of him!
—Janice Priolo on March 6, 2013I would call it "The Padded Room" because of all the fabric and quilts.
—Janice N. on March 6, 2013Barb’s Boars Nest. My dad used to call a busy messy place a Boars Nest.

—JoanfromLA on March 6, 2013My little corner of my world.

—Merri Lundquist on March 6, 2013I would call my space "The fun is all mixed up’ because I have so many creativity interests … quilt, knit, crochet, spin, paint, clay and MORE! Try to keep each medium in a separate area; but, I mix ribbons and beads with quilting, knitting, crocheting, etc.
—Randim on March 6, 2013Dream Land-I can drem up, sew up, stitch up, knit or craft anything I can dream.
—Sherry Dye on March 6, 2013My name for my creative space is Treasure Trove for Travelingthreads
—Jackie Swett on March 6, 2013The name I would give my sewing space is MINE. I have never had a room that was just mine, not ever, until we moved to this house.
—Peggy Robles on March 6, 2013Hodgepdge Hothouse!
—Richard Rosenfeld on March 6, 2013I call it the quilt room, but the beau calls it my ‘woman cave’. That may be a much better desciption- and it shows that he understands the need for me to have my own space. It is all mine- but does have a guest vahrir in case anyone wants to watch tv with me and try to hear over the machine noise, or just sit and visit.
—Teresa D in TX on March 6, 2013I call it my Studio Retreat!
—sharon murray on March 6, 2013This is MY room…ummmm Studio Retreat, because I can do what ever I choose to do with my space. I can (and do) make a mess and close the door. Or I can read a book on my loveseat. I love my Studio Retreat!

—Lou on March 6, 2013My creative space is called the "Doing Room." I do quilting, beading, bear making and all my fun creative projects in this room.
Marietta Lynn in Laurel, MS March 6, 2013
—Marietta Lynn on March 6, 2013"Intergalactic Rest Home for the Aging Extraterrestrial". My UFO’s have been there so long they think they are retired. "o)
—Karen on March 6, 2013I upgraded my long arm’s electronics a few years ago. The shipper sent me an email saying, "Elvis has left the building," when she put the new computer boards into the post. Since then my machine has been called Elvis. Therefore, my creative space would have to be called, "Graceland!"
—Sandra on March 6, 2013It would be called, "You can come in, but don’t touch anything" – because it just makes me cringe when my grandchildren come into my sewing room because I know I won’t be able to find anything when they’re gone!!
—Carole on March 6, 2013There could be no other name than "Utter Chaos" for my creative space. Even if it is in perfect order when I start, it will be a disaster area by the time I am done.
—Colleen Terry on March 6, 2013Dump and Stump, when I get new supplies I tend todump them, then get stummped when Itry to find that ellusive item, I know I just got. This is a great way to end up acquiring mutiple – sicissors, measuring tapes (alsorts), rotery cutters etc.
—Karen on March 6, 2013"Lost in Paradise"!
—Jane Kolterman on March 6, 2013When my youngest was little(2-3 yrs) He had a lispt and couldn’t say craft room. It always came out MumMums Crap room and that stuck.I call it my Vacation room. I love being there no matter what it gets called
—Carol G on March 6, 2013Chaos. It usually looks like a bomb went off.
—jane on March 6, 2013My space is called "Hey! Move Over!" because it is just a little spot on the table in the dining room where everyone here does everything.
—Susan on March 6, 2013I call my sewing room aka my creative space my "Happy Place!" I always feel happy when I am in my sewing room no matter if it is organized or recently undergone a creative explosion.
—Kim W on March 6, 2013My Paradise!!
—Jackie Smyk on March 6, 2013My creative space would be called the "twilight Zone" because nobody know what will come out of there, or IF I will ever come out!
—Mary Reed on March 6, 2013Since my name is Fran, it’s only natural that my space is known as the "Francave".
—Fran on March 6, 2013I would have to name my quilt room "The Quilter’s Bar". We turned the two car garage in the basement of our house into a barroom for my husband, complete with wet bar and pool table. I sold the pool table and moved my quilt room into his former barroom. The bar is still there so if I am working on a project that is giving me fits, I can have a cold one while I figure out the problem!
—Crystal on March 6, 2013I will nickname my creative space "A little piece of Heaven" It’s my escape, my bliss, my retreat.
—Trudy on March 6, 2013over the years my room had many names. from the boys room to just Bills room then when he moved out it was the computer room. over the last few years I have moved in. With all my crafts things it is my "dream room", "work room", "hiding room. But to all in my family they just call it "Mom’s Room".
—Linda Moseley on March 6, 2013Usually, I call it ‘the oasis’. Since I broke my leg in January and can’t get upstairs, it is now referred to as ‘the unreachable star’!
—Julie W. on March 6, 2013My sewing room has no nickname. It IS the Bear Cave. It is based on my nick-name (Pandi) and the fact my sewing center is a large converted Toy Hauler Trailer about an eight of a mile walk from my rural home. The Bear Cave is the first place to look for me. It has cellphone and computer coverage, built in sewing counters and tables and storage, various serge-protectors and anytime of the day or night it is a better place to be than his man cave!
—Pandi Patterson on March 6, 2013My creative space is always an organized mess! Lordy, I try to make it just organized but it ends up a mess every time!!!
—Sylvia Blissett on March 6, 2013Mine takes up my entire basement open floor plan rec room and we call mine "the Workroom". I have a group of seven quilter/sew-ers a week on tues nights and 9 scrapbook/crafters a week on thursday days. I know it’s not very unique but we all call it that and have a great time there.
Great fun.
—Kathy Aho in Minnesota on March 6, 2013"Hurricane Carley" I am a scrappy Quilter, I get so wrapped up in the design process I pull out all the stash looking for that one piece of fabric that makes my quilt sparkle and puts a smile on my face.
—Carlene on March 6, 2013I was once called a "Crafty Sew ‘n Sew" by a loving neighbor, so my space is called my "Craft and Sewing room(s)". It has expanded over the years, I don’t know why (ha ha).
—Sherie Christiansen on March 6, 2013At it again, My husbands favorite phrase as I’m working on another quilt again
—EveVanna Hedrich on March 6, 2013I’d call my sewing/computer room "The Wreck of the Hesperus" . When I get involved with a project organization goes out the window and by the time I’m in the middle of my project everything that was once in it’s place is no longer there.
—Beverly Passwaters on March 6, 2013everyone calls my sewing space "the hut"
—Mary Smithj on March 6, 2013I would call my creative space Ex nihilo which is Latin for "out of nothing". I want to give form to the ideas that spring forth to fill the void with great colors and textures.
—MaryRose on March 6, 2013My studio is called "My Happy Place" My studio has two large windows with lots of light. I create and dream and feel so good when I am there.
—Judy on March 6, 2013Home of Baba Originals — would be the name for my sewing room/studio. When I was 4 or 5 years old (and hadn’t yet learned to talk, my folks laughed when I called myself ‘Baba’ instead of Barbara. So, given the diversity of things I create in my sewing area, Home of Baba Originals = would be my response to your question.
—Barbara Scott on March 6, 2013Barbara Scott
March 6, 2013
My husband calls my sewing room " The Battlefield" because it’s filled with scary weapons like scissors and rotary blades. After hopping around and shouting as he located lost pins and needles, he now avoids the mine field , just sticking his head in the door to chat. That works for me!
—Melody on March 6, 2013it already has a name, it is my obsessive compulsive room !
—diane on March 6, 2013Mamaw’s craft explosion…because everything I craft is for my grandkids or has something to do with them and I never get a chance to completely staighten the area before I’m on to something else.
—Patty Hougland on March 6, 2013My space is Grans Workroom!
—Pat on March 6, 2013The Explosion
—Jessica on March 6, 2013Controlled chaos, as I am in transition to a newly finished spaces in the basement. For now, I have a corner for storage and a corner for working, hoping to stay out of the way of my awesome handyman hubby.
—Ellen on March 6, 2013When I moved to my 2-bedroom apartment, I decided it was a 1-bedroom with a sewing suite. Still working to find the perfect way of storing my stash to have it at my finger tips, the walk in closet is devoted to all things quilting but I’m already overflowing. Baby, my new sewing partner, resides on her wonderful cabinet out in the room all the time. Projects in bins around the room, a 4′x8′ design wall up all the time. I have drawing pads, oversize graph paper, books, patterns and my laptop. The entire space is my Sanctuary. Sometimes a bit more chaotic than I would like, but the place I can regain my sanity and self after an even more chaotic day at work.
—Margaret Murphy on March 6, 2013My sewing room would be called Sarah’s Haven
—Sarah Bookspan on March 6, 2013My quilting space nickname The inner sanctum.
—Pat Salvant on March 6, 2013I would call it Hurricane Patty! As we know…Creative minds are rarely tidy!
—Patty Miller on March 6, 2013Chaos. If you saw the mess, you would understand why. It hasn’t had it’s New Year’s cleaning yet, and will probably have to wait a while longer. Life is interrupting.
—Claudia on March 6, 2013I guess I’d have to call my sewing creative space….Sidetracked. I have to basically clean it up before I can start each project, which often sidetracks me with looking at patterns I have stacked that I want to try, fabric I need to cut for the next quilt, and fabrics to put up from the last project. By the time I get it done, I have to wait until the next day or week, depending on what I have going on, in order to start what I was going to do in the first place.
—Evelyn Johnson on March 6, 2013Hurricane Carrie !!
—Carrie on March 6, 2013I call it ‘My House.’
Many years ago I suggested turning the guest room into a sewing room. My husband turned to me and said, "Why would you want to restrict yourself to one room?"
I still toy with the idea of relocating all my stuff to one room, but don’t think I could fit all the different pieces of furniture that currently hold my stash(es) and notions into any one room in the house.
Besides, wandering around the house collecting the requirements for each process is legitimate exercise, right? ;D
—Kayt on March 6, 2013It’s my "Fabricology Resource Center"
—Shelley Lee on March 6, 2013Right now, I’m calling my creative space the Creative Collection.
—Becky on March 6, 2013The "Swamp"
—Diana L. Carter on March 6, 2013a "wholey mess"! the whole thing is a mess, and there is something a little bit Holy in the process—losing yourself in the color, fabric, design! Would love to have a nice organized space, but the process seems not to allow that.
—Kay Losh on March 6, 2013My area would be called Borrowed Space. I have tried using the formal dining room table to do my projects. I am a sandwich generation caretaker…..parents and disabled son. We live with my folks and I encroach on their areas, so, visually, using their dining room table is not appreciated. I am kinda messy in my creative state. So……I have put up a table behind the dining room table so I can’t be accused of using their space. I feel free to leave my ‘Borrowed Space’ in disarray for as long as I want……
—RuthWW on March 6, 2013Craft Cave!
—Linda Lang on March 6, 2013My husband has referred to my sewing area as "Barbie Land" for so long, it stuck!
—Barbara Acchino on March 6, 2013Though my space is never completely clean, it is very organized. I spend a good part of my day in there, so i love for it to be pretty and functional. I love shabby chic and with the addition of my grandmother’s crystal chandelier, i painted my room aqua blue. as in Tiffany blue. Thus i call my sewing room Tiffany’s.
—Jan Perry on March 6, 2013I would call my craft room Serenity. I not only enjoy it when I am sewing but also when I need to think or resolve a problem. Its my hide-away.
—Julie on March 6, 2013Fabric Explosion. There are bookshelves, there are baskets there are bins, there are piles, there are boxes…all full of cloth.

—KimR on March 6, 2013My husband named it for me, "The Sanctuary".
—Joy M on March 6, 2013"Mini-Mobile-Paradise" Mini because of size, Mobile because it is in an RV, and Paradise because I can look out my table side window and see gorgeous sights.
—Diane L. on March 6, 2013The new sewing room my husband created for me has now been named "My Happy Room". I was in a very cramped room that was so disorganized it was difficult to find items let alone sew anything while in that clostrophobic area. My Happy Room is wonderfully spacious, with great lighting and a wonderful view of my active hummingbird feeder!
—Joanie on March 6, 2013My creative space is called Bea’s Hive. My given name is Beatrice. I was named after my mother who was named after her mother. Because I was called "Little Bea". I asked to be called "Lynn" when I was 16, but inside, I’m still "Bea", as is MY daughter and granddaughter. My family enjoys giving me stuffed bees, frames with bees, wall hangings with bees, bee pillows—you name it, I’ve got it! So my little sewing room is Bea’s Hive!

—Ferne on March 6, 2013I would call my place "Quiet Love." My husband is not demonstrative when it comes to showing his love, but he quietly does things for me that shows his love. After many years I finally got a sewing room. He made me a two unit cabinet for my sewing room. There is room for two sewing machines, three rows of drawers and lots of counter space to be creative. In his quiet way he showed me he supports my quilting efforts.
—Chloe Lewis on March 6, 2013..My creative space HAS a nick name – "grammas stuff" /// my stuff is pretty much a living part of the house.
—Sandra McFerran on March 6, 2013My room would be called "Where beautiful quilts are made,"and its’ nickname "Puzzle."
—Linda Christianson on March 6, 2013It would be the Sword of Damocles. It hangs over my head, a reminder that I cannot know contentment until I use up all those stashes of mine.
—Dianne Channon on March 6, 2013Mine might be aptly named "The Lint Zone". I love making scrap quilts so I have lots of fabric strewn about my sewing room. I don’t let others into clean the area and I would rather sew than clean – so it can get pretty linty in ther before I straighten up and dust!
—Julia Stavran on March 6, 2013I would say it is Tranquil Zone
—Tammi on March 6, 2013I am fortunate and appreciative to have a sewing room in my home. A place I can feel inspired and create! I call this room "flourish" because it allows me to start with the smallest scraps of fabric and turn them into a work of art!
—Renee Pasquale on March 6, 2013Renee Pasquale
My sewing studio would be called "Maggie’s Place" after my mother. Maggie sewed out of necessity having four girls. I have the privilege of sewing because it is a passion. My husband and I have purchased an old home and are remodeling it. I will have a large (22ft. X 15ft) room, quiet a nice sewing studio, if I may say so. Your question has inspired me to commemorate my mother for all the knowledge she left me by naming this new studio, "Maggie’s Place".
—Sharon on March 6, 2013My space is called Spot, because it’s a tiny spot in the bedroom. I share my home with my husband, my son, and my three grandchildren. I still create, I just needed to get more creative with space.
—Carol Sharp on March 6, 2013"Where It All Happens," from designing, to piecing, to quilting, to ripping out and starting over. . .the highs when the project is going well and the lows when it isn’t. . .that is my space!!
—Terry K on March 6, 2013Mine wonderful workspace is called the "Creaky Knee Quilt Studio" because all that started here had bad knees!!!
—Debbie on March 6, 2013I would call mine "This is my Little Nook " We just moved and my quilting room isn’t set up yet and so the building we are living for temporary is the finished end of a pole barn and so I’m in a little nook in the pole barn.

—Anita Ezzell on March 6, 2013My "creative space" would be Messy Bessy. My intentions are good, but my focus on neatness is not. Too many projects and not enough time to clean up after each one. That would cut into my fun of creating!
—Geri on March 6, 2013My sewing room would be called Connie’s Cloth Coop.
—Connie Douty on March 6, 2013My sewing room would be called Messy Marvin right now.

—Mary on March 6, 2013I think my creative space is "heaven". It’s my special space and makes me happy.
—Minnie on March 6, 2013I’d call my studio organized chaos. Mostly, I know where everything is, but when I’m working on a few things at a time (always!)it can be a little disheveled. It is my happy place though and would not give it up without a fight.
—Marion on March 6, 2013My studio "Movibear Studio" has a nickname I call it my "Playpen" just drop me in it and leave me there, remove only at meal times or when I am falling on my nose.

—nicamash on March 6, 2013So I call it ….My Sewing Room.
"Prudy’s Place", because it is my own space in one room of the basement.
—Prudy Hogrefe on March 6, 2013When I was selling my decorative painting at shows and directly. My logal was and always will be "Cellar Creations. I am afraid that I have taken over all of the basement with the exception of about 40 of 900 sq.feet.
My old sewing area that my DH built 30 years ago, is now my painting area (too small to piece a quilt there!) So I converted the bedroom in the basement to my special space for sewing………..far from complete but on the way. I have a TV, a Keurig one cup coffee machine and soon a small microwave…………..a treadmill that is my hubby’s and allow him to use the shower down there……….my laundry and a phone. What more can I ask for…………I’ll figure out something.
My craft area is a treasure hunters work in progress! We’ve moved four times in seven years and shuffled each time.
—Lyn Kaufmann on March 6, 2013Cluttered creative chaos!

—Rosa Giron on March 6, 2013The swamp is my domain.
—linda hàrriott on March 6, 2013My space would be better known as ‘Organized Chaos’. It may look like a tornado (that would be me) hit, but I do know where things are at. (Well most of the time.)
—Cindy R. on March 6, 2013The Wild Mess room
—Verda Reeves on March 6, 2013Oasis-it is my space away from it all and where I can enjoy my own creativity with the fabrics that I love surrounding me.
—deb on March 6, 2013Susan’s Super Special Sewing Space. For many years I had to sew in the dining room, or on a card table in the bedroom, or wherever I could fit my machine so it’s a real treat to have a designated room that’s just for me and my sewing equipment. To me it really is super special.
—Susan on March 7, 2013Currently it’s Weasel-palooza since I also have a playpen containing 4 ferrets back there, but if I had the space I’d really like to have I’d call it The Pleasure Zone.
—Connie C on March 7, 2013I’d name it "Hodge Podge" because there’s a little of everything in it for quilting, sewing, painting, spinning wool, crafting.
—Deb Blackbourn on March 7, 2013Mel-Mey’s Cut and Sewing Studio
—Melinda Meyer on March 7, 2013My home inside home.
—Marilyn on March 7, 2013Nanas hide a way
—Debbie on March 7, 2013My little studio is on the uppper floor (4th) of the house and is all mine… I nicknamed it the Crows Nest… Where I can collect all the things I need to play… and occasionally play.
—Beth-near WA DC! on March 7, 2013My sewing area would be called: “ Itchin’ 4 Stitchin’ ”
—Barbara on March 7, 2013"The Sanctuary". When I am in my sewing room, all my worries melt away; my i-pod is playing, I am singing, and all is right with the world.
—Jackie F. on March 7, 2013Eu chamo sempre que é o meu canto de terapia
Translation: I call it My Therapy Corner.
—Maria Nogueira on March 7, 2013I have a lovely room dedicated to sewing. Within this room is a cupboard which has become known as "The Cupboard of Despair". No matter how tidy or organised I am, things get mixed up, crammed in and usually fall out when the doors are opened.
I do despair because it can take all day to tidy and only a few hours to mess up again because I want to use all the exciting fabrics discovered on the tidy up.
—Zanna on March 7, 2013Sitting in the corner . My granddaughter said "why are you sitting in the corner ? Were you bad? I told her no ,I have lots of room in the corner because no one else wants to sit here.
—Chris Ash on March 7, 2013Chris
My creative space is called "Home". Projects ‘in work’ are here and there in different places – garden, verandah, family room, living room, sewing studio, etc. My entire home gives me inspiration to relax and create.
—Mary on March 7, 2013My space would be called, Where do I put it?" I just bought a house and I have to decide where I will put my sewing stuff. I’m sure I’ll be moving it around until I get it right.
—Jo Stires on March 7, 2013Challenge Room because I am challenged to create something new every time I enter.
—Kathy on March 7, 2013My first craft area was called "my hole". I shared space with the washing machine & furnace but it was mine. Now I have a room which is referred to "My happy space". Just walking in the room makes me happy and I feel stress melt away.
—Laura Graham on March 7, 2013when I’m really sewing as I am most of the time I would call it Nonni Chicks Messy Nest
—Donna on March 7, 2013My space is changing to our casita(Little House) next to our big house. I will have a whole little house for my work and products of the group I teach. I would call the space I work in now the Compost Heap. Piled with stuff, rarely turned over but amazing things grow from it. Moving day is about 2 weeks off when the paint dries. I will be glad to have it.
—Marianne Brown on March 7, 2013my creative zone is called "PURPOSEFUL CLUTTER" it is always upside down, but I know where everything is, even with the help of two cats. I am lucky to have a solarium as my space, can see birds in winter and summer from my wall of windows. Ironing board is part of the decor, it is never put away. I was so happy to see all the other comments, and know I am not the only person creating in a Mess!
—Wanda on March 7, 2013K-Oz.
—Shirley on March 7, 2013Although I do occasionally refer to the space as Quiltland, it will ever be Euphoria: the land of quilty heaven, watercolor, leather tooling, and other artsy elations.
—Becca on March 7, 2013My area would definitely be called "I know where everything is"
—Virginia Bronner on March 7, 2013I suppose my crafting space would be called "Rabbit Warren" because my things are hidden throughout the house–rug supplies in the top shelf of the linen closet, fabric stacked in the dining room, crochet yarn in the bedroom, crafting supplies in the chest in the other bedroom, pattern books in the dining room. One of these days I will gather everything together in one location, then it’s "Katie bar the door" what I hope to make……I can dream, right?
—Cheryl L on March 7, 2013I would call my space Home because every room in the house has something related to quilting, sewing, ect. My husband says I took over everything with my "Crap", he really means my "Craft".
—Vicki Brown on March 7, 2013The "LEAVE ME ALONE" room
—JoAnne on March 7, 2013I quilt in a spare bedroom, also keep all my knitting supplies here as well. When not in use, it just looks so lovely and cozy, but…when in use it just gets, well, very, very messy. My grandson calls it ‘Nana’s Messy Room".
—Rosemary on March 7, 2013I would think that the best title to describe my sewing room would be the "Disaster Area – Enter at your own risk!!!!" So many started projects and so many more swimming around in my head waiting to be started and completed!!!!!!It is all good!!!!!
—Delia on March 7, 2013I call my sewing room "Material World" and my husband’s office "The Paper Palace".
—Cathy Willoughby on March 7, 2013The best title of my sewing room is MESS "Minerva’s Embroidery & Sewing Studio" – what looks like a MESS to anyone else is the creative seat of wonder and beauty to me! Minerva, of course, being the "goddess of music, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts and magic." (Wikipedia.org/wiki/Minerva) A place where I can retreat and create magic with color, fabric and thread.
—Lois LaPointe on March 7, 2013It should be called "If you enter here you could get into trouble".
—Marthese on March 7, 2013Probably if someone reads it will answer "Amen"
Creative Clutter! There’s quilting stuff in every room of our house. Sometimes, I get inspired while sitting on the "throne" reading a magazine? If not, I go to the fabric/computer room and look up free patterns. Still can’t find anything? I go to our library and sewing room, grab a book and start reading.
Keep smiling,
—Lynnita Shipman on March 7, 2013My space would be nick-named "The Happy Frustration Zone",, because it makes me happy, but I must admit to some frustrating moments as well!!
—Jane Kirk on March 7, 2013"in the clouds" – right now my creative workspace is non-existant full of boxes from a move that still needs to be unpacked. for now, all creative work is going on inside of my head.
—Karyn on March 7, 2013I call my Studio my Happy Place. No matter what mood I am in, I always feel better just going downstairs and into the room! I keep it mostly neat and tidy so when I enter, I am free to pick up any project I wish and start playing! I have it painted light and bright and found some pink flamingo fabric to make curtains and other decor items. I have since collected lots of Pink Flamingos to decorate the room with! I always said that when I saw fabric that made me smile, I would know the theme for my studio! How better to celebrate the creative spirit than when in touch with your inner child! My room makes all things possible and fun! The only problem is that once I’m in my Happy Place, I never want to leave!!
—Deb Johnson on March 7, 2013I would have to call my converted guest room into my "Happy Fondling Room". I get in there and start to fondle the fabric to try to visualize my next project.
—Barbara Scott on March 7, 2013well my husband just tells people that this is "Madeline’s part of the house", seeing as I am lucky enough to have a sewing room (with all the books and craft drawers, and a quilting room (with the boxes of stash and quilting frame setup) and an office, (in which I DO do all of his bookkeeping as well as design quilts on my computer)
—madeline on March 7, 2013When I first got my creative space I would call it "sew serene". Now that I’ve been working in it for almost 8 years I’m more apt to call it "insurance adjuster’s nightmare.
—Pamela Zajicek on March 7, 2013We lovingly call my studio "Area 51″ because it’s the place with all the UFOs!!
—Nancy Green on March 7, 2013Like the website, I call it "My Space". DH make all the cabinets and shelves especially for me. They are all just the right height for the intended purpose. I don’t have to bend over to cut, iron or sew. It’s perfect and I give thanks for him every time I go in there. "My Space"
—Katherine Slack on March 7, 2013Since I spend half my time in Ohio and the other half in North Carolina I would have to call my two work spaces "War Netweem the Stashes". It’s for sure if I am looking for something it’s always in the other work space in the other state. Oh, and did I mention both work areas look like battlefields?
—Linda on March 7, 2013My sewing space is called "my shed". My husband is a farmer and is always out in his shed finding something to occupy his time with. I love being in "me shed"
—Beth on March 7, 2013I call my sewing room ‘the black hole’. I can’t what I need at the time so go buy again to get project done then find what I was looking for.
—Kathie Hansen on March 7, 2013The MONSTER Room – nicknamed because my hubby decided I needed to begin quilting and transformed our son’s former room into a sewing room. At the time I did garments. Since I began quilting, it now has bins of fabric, patterns, and machines. He says he "created a monster" when he challenged me from garments into quilting! –Stitchingly
—Lois Heath on March 7, 2013My studio is above my husband’s office and would have to be called "Cotton Camp After the Hurry-cane". I’ve decorated with my Girl Scouting memorabilia including the "Camp Boundary No Trespassing" sign as you come up the stairs. There is cotton fabric lying on nearly every flat surface, so I have to clear space whenever my quilting friends come to play with me. And it seems like I am always hurrying from one project deadline to the next with all the quilting groups I participate in. Thus the name. I like to "retreat to camp" for fun and inspiration, not unlike our Presidents using Camp David!
—Carol C on March 7, 2013It would be called the Warehouse District. It’s set up in lots of little areas sort of like the neat little stores in New Orleans. There is a scrap section, Sewing section, and a back room for storage, and you have to go through an allyway off my kitchen to get in the room. I love MY room!!!
—Pam knight on March 7, 2013My creative spaces nickname would be Colleen’s Closet – because that is about the size of the room I have to create in! But its a happy spot! thanks!
—lee on March 7, 2013My "SHE CAVE" NO BOYZ ALLOWED…..if a Man can have a MAN CAVE why can’t she?
—La Verne M on March 7, 2013"Wait space"
—C Lemon on March 7, 2013I have a major quilt project in the works right now and several other projects "waiting" in line. Even though my "wait space" takes up one-half of my bedroom, it’s my own special place in this world.
I have called it Mom’s cave AKA the girls old room/Eddie’s old room/guest room.
—Sue Bialoruci on March 7, 2013I have been known to convert from guest room back to my work space in a week when needed.
I would call it my zone out room, because when I get doing my quilts I’m usually zoned out to anything and anybody.
—Sandra on March 7, 2013Fort Bliss.
—Marilyn on March 7, 2013-Space camp – the skys the limit.
—Susan on March 7, 2013What used to be the kitchen! I can only cook, or, sew! I pick sew!
—Camielle on March 7, 2013My studio would have to be called the "Hereafter" because every time I enter it, I say, "Now what was I here after?" When my eyes see the first thing – color – pattern – pile of books and ideas – I instantly forget why I came to the studio. I’m just always glad I came! (And I usually remember why I came…after a while!)
—Julia Schad on March 7, 2013What would I nickname my craft room?
—Nana Jeri on March 7, 2013"Oz" The grandkids think I’m a wizard with crafts and I really like fairies and wee folks. But more than that, it’s an enchanted place. I have kid’s crafts of every kind and let the kids do whatever they want. I also have 2 cupboards of yarn, a closet full of fabrics and just lots of fun stuff to work with! I’m also one of those people that likes to have things out in plain sight or I forget what I have. Since this is generally not possible, I am always finding a stash of something in a cupboard that surprises and thrills even me.
In a play on " A Stitch in Time " I call my sewing room "a stitchin time".
—Tammy on March 7, 2013I call mine "The den of Inspiration". I love going downstairs and into my room of fabric where I have it all on shelves and folded on boards like a quilt shop. I can shop in my own space and be very content. Then I just have to find a pattern I want to use or try to make up my own. Pure heaven….
—Jan Alexander on March 7, 2013I call it "The Brain Wave" because that is where I do my best thinking. Guess I will try and think it clean. Oh My !!! Thanks
Karen on March 7, 2013
—Karen Erickson on March 7, 2013The ‘don’t come in here if you value your life and sanity’ room.
—Paule-Marie on March 7, 2013Queenie’s Corner. I am to be the only one in that organized space.
—Marilyn Meinecke on March 7, 2013As I no longer quilt in my sewing room due to it being too small for my fabric and me, I quilt in my dining room. It is now refered to as the ‘Sweet’ room – (sew-eat becomes sweet)!
—Bonnie B. on March 7, 2013The "Pit Stop". I’m not a racing fan by nature, but that is what is feels like when I get in there. I’m always racing around doing something and when I get the chance to stop in there and rejuvenate my creative senses and sometimes just relax, it is heaven. Then after a time with all of my favorite things at my fingertips, I’m refueled and ready to go.
—Julie on March 8, 2013If my creative space had a nickname it would be DISNEYLAND. Sometimes when the ideas are really flowing and the fabric is flying it’s “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride”. And when I connect with quilters from all across the globe, ”It’s A Small World”. When I’m dreaming up new projects it can be “Fantasyland” or “Adventureland” or even “Tomorrowland”. And when I’m in there creating it’s always “the happiest place on earth”.
—Lisa Marie on March 8, 2013My sewing room is called "The Hole" because my husband says when I go or crawl in there I never come out. Of Course I am having too much fun sewing and have everything I need.
—Rose on March 8, 2013Order our of Chaos
—Lynda Nunez on March 8, 2013Order out of Chaos
—Lynda Nunez on March 8, 2013My Room is called "My Play House" as it is a separate building beside our house that is approximately 16′x22′. It contains shelves of fabric, thread and notions, 5 sewing and embroidery machines, longarm quiling machine, serger, computers and printer as I also do digitizing, along with my TV, stereo, small refrigerator and microwave. It is almost a self contained area where I can escape to enjoy my passion of quilting yet when company arrives, I can shut the door, walk about 10 steps to the house and leave my project undisturbed until I return. It is almost like a little piece of heaven on earth – a retreat of my own – my Play House.
—Toni H on March 8, 2013My sewing space is called organized confusion. I’m the only one that can find anything. Even my grandsons say don’t go in there you might not make it out.
—Patty on March 8, 2013"Robbin’s Sanity Room" where I go to destress.
—Robbin Golden on March 8, 2013My creative sewing crevice contains:
new-to-me old horn sewing desk and my Janome, my FW, Singer 27 treadle, kindergarten cubby w/ 20 plastic labeled boxes of scrap fabric sorted by
—Anne Marie D. on March 8, 2013color or pattern (holiday, florals, etc.), a home-made cutting desk / ironing area, crates of larger fabrics sorted by color, an old over-door coat hooks dangling all my rulers, engineering bins containing sewing paraphenalia and presser feet! I can find everything lightning fast!
Sew What!
—Donna on March 8, 2013At the moment the ‘black hole’ since everyone’s stuff seems to be sucked into it. But I have PLANS…….
—Ann Robalino on March 8, 2013I call it Work in Progress because I have just so many of those! But that is where I love to be! It is truly an organized mess, but somehow I always seem to find what I need!
—Jan staples on March 8, 2013Organized UFO’s and chaos. I always seem to have several projects going at once and some that get lost in the shuffle. It’s amazing when those UFO’s show up. Sometimes I can’t remember what they were for.
—Louise B. on March 8, 2013The rainbow! I am an organizing freak (as my mom, another sewer pointed out to me). Everything is organized by fabric type and then color. This extends to my thread, and yes even my pin cushion. My mom has informed me that there is medication for my problems (she was only joking a little I think…LOL) but it seems to work for me!
—laura on March 8, 2013Angie`s Cuttin` Corner as long as it has LAVENDER in it!
—Angie on March 8, 2013My "Sunny Place". It will always be the living room because I live in a very small trailer but I have a 4 foot area directly in front of a south window where my sewing machine sits beside a small cabinet containing my quilting tools. My stash and current project are always in the store room when not being used but I look forward every morning to the view from my "Sunny Place" as I work on my latest project.
—Judy Cowen-Hodges on March 8, 2013My sewing room is called "My Happy Place"!
—Jane on March 8, 2013My craft space is the "No Go Zone". No one but me is allowed in there – a small spare bedroom – and I keep the door shut at all times, even when I’m in there working. That stops the animlas from leaving their fur all over everything and hubby from knowing exactly what’s in it (lol).
—JoyHopes on March 8, 2013I DO have a nickname for my space. I call it "my office". After all, important stuff goes on in there. There’s my therapy=quilting, and planning, and designing.
—Cheryl Wright on March 8, 2013I call my area the dungeon, I sew in a very small den and have several tables set up around my sewing machine cabinet to make it work. I cut and store my fabric in our storage room that is unfinished and unheated. When the grandkids come I have to put everything away and search the floor for pins. This is the area that the grandkids play in and watch TV in.
—Helen miller on March 8, 2013My creative space is already nicknamed "The Maze."
I managed to arrange a desk, sewing cabinet, cutting table, storage shelf unit (everything full size), and a custom made bookshelf/thread storage unit, in an 11′x 10′ bedroom.
There is a maze, or pathway, that allows me to reach and use everything. It all fits amazingly well, and I don’t feel cramped. The big window with a view gives the illusion of more space!
—Crazy Cuban on March 8, 2013Ruby & Buttercup
—Chris on March 8, 2013When I’m going to sew, I tell my husband, "If you need me, I’ll be in ‘Studio G’. And if you dare to enter ‘my domain of organized chaos, do so at your own risk’". So, in short, my sewing room is named after me. Studio G.
—Gina on March 8, 2013My currently almost finished sewing room has been dubbed "the bat cave" by my wonderful menfolk, as in opposition to "the man cave" in which my darling husband spends all his time. I’m assured it’s an affectionate term for the space in which I’ll be spending as much time as possible quilting, knitting and sewing … and anything else crafty that I can think of.
—Cara on March 8, 2013My space is just a little corner so I would and have called it my cubbie. It is were I have my quilting world.
—Roxanne R. on March 8, 2013My space is called, MOMS LITTLE SPACE OF HEAVEN, I hope to supply my family their own little piece of my heaven here on earth.
—Judy Curtis on March 8, 2013"Dis-jointed" or "Seperated"…my sewing machine is in the utility room along with some of my fabrics and the rest is in my home office space. Then when I need to cut out several pieces I go to the dining room table. Would be so nice to have everything in one room.
—Rhonda on March 8, 2013My husband says my work area looks post apocaleptic. So we call it "PAZ". Short for Post Apocaleptic Zone. It really isn’t that bad, but while I am working on a quilt…..welllll maybe.
Muchos besos a todas!!! (Translation: After many years I could have my room, my studio, for me and only me. I feel that it transports me to a very special place, my personal dream. I let my imagination go: think and dream!! It is my "Bermuda Triangle." I feel trapped and I disappear, I vanish into a whirlwind of fabrics, threads, needles, pins … At last I found "my place in the world." Many kisses to all!
—silvia payer on March 8, 2013My space I would have to say is where ever I happen to be at the time. I live on 19 acres and garden and am going to have chickens and sheep again, so my space will be with them. My space is also in my house, whether I am cooking or sewing or doing some other needle work.
—Karon Wurst on March 8, 2013Mine would be called ‘The Chook House as when I am making a quilt the room looks like one with bits of thread and material scattered around like a mob of chickens have been scratching around the room
—Joy Clark on March 9, 2013I two bedrooms which I have converted to "Studio I" and "Studio II"
—Renee Welton on March 9, 2013"In The Aftermath of the Creative Hurricane" as I am far from neat when I create. I try, but it only stays organized until I start a new project, then kablewi, chaos again
—Mary Lou on March 9, 2013The Bunny’s Nest. I have the brain that must create. Sewing when I was a child, creating and making my 5 childrens clothes as a mother. When that nest was empty I learned floral design and had my own flower shop. When I retired to a senior community I took many classes and found quilting. Now disabled and in a wheelchair I have created another nest. A sewing room where I can quilt beautiful things for my grandchildren. When asked why, I reply I am the Energizer Bunny and I just keep going and going. Everybody knows a bunny must have a nest.
—Jomarie on March 9, 2013My craft/sewing/grand kids’ room is the "So how do you want it arranged this week?" room. Our older daughter’s former room has went through so many changes over the last 40 years. A storage room to a bedroom for 1 then 2 then 1 again, my work at home office, and it is now the "whatever" room.
—Charlotte on March 9, 2013The Big Bang Theory – because it looks like something BIG went BANG in here! Total chaos!
—Carol Huisman on March 9, 2013The Black Hole – things go in and may never come out again. The room seems to always be in a state of flux. I’m constantly amazed that creative projects emerge!
—Michelle W on March 9, 2013Because my creative space cannot be and is definitely not limited to a specific area of the house, I call it Gracie’s House of Genius. I derive inspiration from every room in the house and my work may also occur in any one of the rooms of the house. I have been seen using the tiles in the kitchen to measure and lay out a design; I draw, iron, sew in the living room; needlework of all descriptions in the bedroom; and best of all, the in-house tea room with a view of my whole world. I gather materials from closets, the garage, recycle bins, medicine cabinet, kitchen, and even the forest for my quilts, cards, toys, and various other creative endeavors. So, there are times it may be called Gracie’s evil house of genius, it is my sanctuary and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
—Gracie on March 9, 2013Magical Moments in Life!!! Where I create, sew, read, mediate and relax. I love my creative space!!! In fact, I think I will make a sign… Good project for my next day off!!!
—Barb MacNaughton on March 9, 2013I use the basement as my creative space, the kids call it the "Quilt Cave"
—Beth on March 9, 2013enigmatic chaos.
—shirley on March 9, 2013Creative Confusion Zone – Enter At Own Risk of Project Completion!
—Chris on March 10, 2013My sewing studio is in my daylight basement. I have a 16′x 22′ bit of heaven that I can call my own. I especially like the fact that I don’t have to put anything away when I leave – just turn out the light. There’s a sign on the door to the stairs. It says, "I’m in Heaven, come on down!"
—Barb G on March 10, 2013I simply call my space my "Sewing Studio". Not too creative you say? Well step inside my 900 Square feet of total peacefulness and feel the creative flow that lives in my sewing studio. There are emboridery machines, sergers, felters, long arms, a dyeing center, a jewelry table. Friends that come over to play while we listen to Neil Diamond on the record player. The walk-in closet invites you to come explore. My "Sewing Studio" is a gift from my husband, who sometimes sews side by side with me. Durling football season we sew together in front of the large screen TV. My "Sewing Studio" is my space, it is a friendly space that is open to all.
—Jacqueline Bencomo on March 10, 2013The getaway! Speaks for itself.
—Mary on March 10, 2013My husband refers to my craft room as the bell tower! He says that when I go upstairs to the bell tower I disappear for hours on end! I have everything I need up here to chanel my creative juices except for a fridge!
—diane on March 10, 2013Center of Chaos LOL
—Carmen on March 10, 2013"Oh for goodness sake, where did I put that piece down."
That’s because I am a very messy housekeeper!!!
—Helen on March 11, 2013Fabric, fabric, fabric as far a the eye can see!
—Pat on March 11, 2013
