Martingale's Quirky Question

Thanks for stopping by for the weekly Quirky Question—where questions are just for fun, your answers are always welcome, and you could win an eBook for free!

Vintage Bow Ties quiltRight: “Vintage Bow Ties” from Bits and Pieces by Karen Costello Soltys (only $6.00 for the eBook through October 27). See a slideshow of quilts from the book below.

It seems like there’s a persistent yet misguided perception about quilters: we’re all quiet little ladies who bake cookies, sip tea, and stitch everything by hand from our trusty old rocking chairs. But even if some of us fit that mold to a T, there’s always more to the story. Let’s do some myth-busting—tell us your perceptions:

What does it mean to you when you say “I’m a quilter”?

Post your answer in the comments before noon (PST) on Monday, October 28, for your chance to win. The winning answer will be posted on Wednesday, October 30, along with the next question.

Last week’s Quirky Question was, “What’s the quickest quilt you’ve ever made?” Here’s the winning comment, from Shelly:

“One day. My father, who lived across country, was scheduled for a high-risk aeortic aneurysm surgery. I knew that sending him a quilt would reflect how much I loved him and wrap him in warmth during his recovery. I cut and pieced the quilt in one morning (beautiful red, white, and black musical fabrics), and a friend long-arm quilted it the same day. I bound it, by hand, that night. It was shipped via overnight delivery the next day.

The surgery was a success and dad loved the quilt for many years, until passing last month. The quilt made its second journey, and is now in my home. It reminds me daily of my dad and his love of music.”

Thank you, Shelly—look for an email about your free eBook.
