Thanks for stopping by for the weekly Quirky Question—where questions are just for fun, your answers are always welcome, and you could win an eBook for free!
(“Maple Sugar Hearts” quilt pattern (right) by Karen Soltys, $4.99.)
By now you’ve heard the news. Quilt shops across the country are getting the acknowledgement they deserve—a special day to celebrate in their honor. And it’s tomorrow! The first annual Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day is the perfect way to show love and support for your favorite shop. Got an excuse to go? Dream up a few ideas with this week’s question:
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…
Post your answer in the comments before noon (PST) on Monday, January 28, for your chance to win. The winning comment will be posted on Wednesday, January 30, along with the next question.
Last week’s Quirky Question was, “If we all traded UFOs, what’s the one UFO you’d give away—and why?” Here’s the winning response:
“I currently have 97 UFOs and you want me to pick one! Technically, they aren’t **MY** UFOs – they belong to my husband because he challenged me to make 100 quilt tops and HE would purchase a long arm and do the quilting! I started in 2010 and have almost met the challenge! He was able to purchase a floor model at a quilt show for considerable discount; however, we have not been able to set it up at home yet (various issues) to start practicing and finishing all those quilt tops. We are hoping to get it going this spring and those UFOs will begin to go out to their respective charities.”
Last week’s winning comment was written by Lois. Congratulations, Lois—look for an email about how to get your free eBook. (And best of luck to your husband!)

I MUST visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I NEED just one piece of fabric to complete the project(s) I hope to start on Friday. Let’s see the quilt for my grandson’s bed, OR the quilt for my almost grandson (son is engaged to a lovely inside and out gal), OR the lap quilt for my mom, OR the quilt my daughter picked out OR the baby quilt backing for my grand neice, hmmm I better bring the credit card.
—Marnie1nh on January 23, 2013I must visit my Local Quilt Shop tomorrow because I need to see my LQS peeps on LQS Day! Plus, they are having a SALE to celebrate LQS Day, and I always find something I NEED when I am there.
—Lauren aka Giddy99 on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need my almost daily fix of fabric, thread, beads, patterns, books. I could go on and on! Just walking into the shop is at once soothing and exhilarating! I like to stop on my way home from exercise…it’s kind of like a reward for getting up and getting out.
—Laurel on January 23, 2013NEED? I have bins full of gorgeous fabric that I haven’t gotten to yet!
—Karen on January 23, 2013NEED? To see and touch all the beautiful new fabrics, to look for new patterns and magazines, to chat and exchange ideas with my local quilt shop(s) staff, and to walk out the door with more, more, more of what I crave! To have fun!
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I have the daily need to feel fabric, look at quilt patterns, and decide on another project to get me in the mood for more quilting. I need to see what they have new and make plans. Needless to say I have many UFOs, but they will eventually be completed.
—Geneva Lowery on January 23, 2013I NEED to visit my local quilt shop tomorrow,
because I’m feeling January sorrow.
My sewing room is sorely depleted,
from Christmas gifts lovingly created.
I NEED to re-furbish my soul upon entering the shop,
—Justine on January 23, 2013as fabric purchasing I cannot stop.
Thread! I always have ample fabric (yet I find a reason to buy more…?) but I never seem to have the right color of thread.
—Doris on January 23, 2013Treat myself!
—Kathie Frailey on January 23, 2013Wish I could visit my quilt shop but I have to work. I will visit my quilt shop on Saturday.
—Betty Gracie on January 23, 2013First day of retreat. Shop hopping for rotary blades and some background fabric
—Denise L on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need a local quilt shop!! I only have one local quilt shop and I really need/want it to stay in business so I must visit my local quilt shop to support it!!
—Laura on January 23, 2013I need to pick up the fabrics to start our guild’s 2013 Opportunity Quilt! Yay!
—Cheryl on January 23, 2013Quirky question: I must visit my LQS because…
—Sandi Makowski on January 23, 2013I need to be surrounded by my quilting friends, the beautiful fabrics, the gorgeous quilts and all the color. It is my HAPPY PLACE. A place of hope, inspiration, creativity and love. I forget about all the chores, problems and challenges in my day to day life. It is my daily (ideally) meditation. I’m the local quilt groupie.
I NEED to pet some fabric, drool over the sample quilts, and …oh yeah…I’m out of thread!!
—Deb Gipe on January 23, 2013I need a local quilt shop to visit! Our rather largish town does not have a quilt shop. We have two sewing and vac stores but not an exclusively quilt, quilt shop. There is a difference!!! So if you have one PLEASE support it! We had a wonderful quilt shop for a brief time but sadly it has closed.
—Marie Atkinson on January 23, 2013I am going to my local quilt store to purchase fabric to make a quilt of valor for my son who was injured in Iraq. I finally found a pattern I know he will like. I also need to purchase thread, batting, and new rotary cutter blades. Plus I just like stopping in for some delight and uplifting conversation with the girls.
—Elma Lutman on January 23, 2013I need some THERAPY!!!
—Lindsay Mattison on January 23, 2013I must visit my LQS tomorrow for INSPIRATION. Projects in the works are curtains for my sister’s son’s room, curtains for their guest room, and backing and binding for my FIRST.QUILT.EVER. Thanks to the online sewing community, I have gotten fairly ambitious.
—Jenn on January 23, 2013I must visit my three local quilt shops tomorrow because … well, I don’t really need anything, but there is always something new that I simply must have, even if it’s just a fat quarter or two … and I want to support them and help keep the LQS’s open!
—Jan on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop becase I need to. They are counting on me to send all their children to college.
—BarbaraG on January 23, 2013They may have gotten that ONE piece of fabric that I need for a quilt I haven’t even thought of making yet.
—Connie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because they will miss me if I don’t! It is "my place", and we all need a place.
—Stephanie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I NEED absolutely nothing, but I WANT everything! After all, do we ever really need an excuse to quilt!
—Sandi Spence on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need…oh, heck, need has nothing to do with it!
—Caroline on January 23, 2013I need to come up with an idea for a quilting contest.
—cindy cormier on January 23, 2013I NEED to go to my LQS because I NEED to get away from all of these UFO’s and the guilt associated with them! I need the social time because my UFO’s don’t talk back or gossip! And you never know, my LQS might have gotten in that one something that I’ve been waiting for (and don’t know it)! And I might just come back with a donation quilt that NEEDS to be quilted on my longarm, since I NEED the practice!
Can’t argue with that LOGIC! I’m outta here! . . .
—Patty G. on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I am one 12 inch square of one fabric away from finishing the boarder of my quilt. A fat quarter looks like more than you need till you decide you need two 12 inch squares of each color. I should just have bought a half a yard of everything. I can always use the scraps in applique. Cross your fingers that they still have the fabric I need.
—sharyn Mellors on January 23, 2013I MUST visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to support local businesses. This rural area north of Spokane (and closer to the Canadian line) is fortunate to have a full fabric (and beads and yarn) store. Even better is that it is a woman-owned business and has been around for more than 40 years.
Rock on, EZ Knit in Colville, Washington.
—Bert in Rice, WA on January 23, 2013Because…..I NEED my "fabric fix". If I don’t get to my LQS weekly (there are 4 that I frequent), I go through withdrawals. Just kidding – sort of, cause I really do check out at least one each week! LOVE the colors, pattens and feel of fabric! It satisfies something inside and has a calming influence on me.
—Patti Cline on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because . . . they may have gotten in something new that I NEED since I was there last week. You know, you never REALLY know what you need until you see it and then you gotta have it!
—Kathy on January 23, 2013I am visiting because they are having a "Soup and Sew" – great soup, and a chance to work on a project that is due on Sunday. I also believe that if we don’t support our local shops, there will be no local shop to support.
—Pat on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need a fabric fix, and my stash is getting depleted.
—LyndaL on January 23, 2013I want to see some new fabric.
—gail on January 23, 2013I MUST visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I NEED no reason whatsoever!
I go because I like to go…The fabric is better than a scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream, the atmosphere is warm and inviting like hot fudge sauce, and the LQS employees are the cream of the crop (whipped cream)and the purchases I make is the cherry on top of the sundae.
Happy LQS day to all of my favorite shops! You’re better than a hot fudge sundae – no calories!
—Jaci E on January 23, 2013Inspiration. Their unique fabric choices, both single bolts and entire lines of fabric, inspire me in new directions. Silly as it sounds, I need to touch, feel and even smell the fabric. I am sure my fellow quilters know what I mean.
—Robin on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need to get some fabric to match this spool of thread.
—Dianna Whitehead on January 23, 2013well, inspiration and new ideas! I love looking at fabric!
—Lana on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because they’re always there for me when I need them! I can’t imagine not being able to wander through the aisles of bolts and get the inspiration and enthusiasm I need for my next project! This time around, I have a Valentine’s Day table runner that requires all sorts of red and burgundy fabrics, and I need a few more before I can get started. Here in Spokane, Wash., we’re blessed with several awesome quilt shops — I couldn’t imagine losing any of them because they’re all great!
—Susan Mulvihill on January 23, 2013Because I need more fabric to finish my 4yr old granddaughter’s quilt.
—Sandra Strickland on January 23, 2013She has picked out part of the colors and I must buy some more.
Thanks, Sandra
Thank you for reminding me! I totally need to go to my local quilt shop to pick up some fabric for a contest I wish to enter and because it’s like a museum of color and awe in there. Even if I didn’t need to go there for something, I would go in there just to gaze at the marvel of the symphony of sewing supplies.
—Heather on January 23, 2013I must visit my Local Quilt Shop tomorrow because I need to let them know how much I appreciate having them close at hand. They offer suggestions and are a great inspiration as well as wonderful hand holders when needed. They are wonderful to visit when I just need to get out.
—Vivian on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because my son gave me a gift certificate to the shop for Christmas. I’m sure I can find plenty of items to more than spend my son’s gift.
—Cheryl Kochick on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shops tomorrow because I need new inspiration, and a few yards of fabric never hurt anybody!!!
—Diane Nagle on January 23, 2013I must visit my LQS tomorrow because I am suffering from Cabin Fever here in Central NY with all the snow and sub zero temperatures. The friendly staff at Cottons, Etc. will warm me up! Besides as part of their LQS day celebration, all the new classes, with samples and teachers, will be unveiled. Can’t wait.
—Barbara on January 23, 2013Absolutely nothing I NEED! I just WANT to stop in for fabric therapy.
—Pam B on January 23, 2013I have no specific reason at all this week for me to go except for being surrounded by the latest books, fabrics, notions, and class takers. Okay…there is actually a reason, right?
—Colette D. on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shops tomorrow because it is the right thing to do!
—Brenda Worthington on January 23, 2013I must visit the quilt shops tomorrow because I have a patriotic quilt that I want to get done before the auxiliary’s winter meeting this weekend. I have a number of finished squares, but I want to do the sashing and binding to make it an eye-popping red, white, and blue quilt. In my stash of at least 1,258 fabrics, I just don’t have a THING that will do!!!! LOL
—Marilyn Durham on January 23, 2013Okay, I am planning on taking a trip, the original goal to visit a cousin that has been ill. I know little about him although we have been corresponding (via letters through the post). The last letter I recieved he said he was expecting to go into a nursing home. Usually I try to bring something from the US when I visit family, friends or aquaintances far away. The only thing I can think of to bring someone in a nursing home is a soft small quilt (maybe a jar of peanut butter and maple syrup?). I need to visit my LQS to get inspiration- and maybe a pattern, I sew and have stashes of fabric, have one quilt top (not quite quilted- yet), but will need to figure a topic, and which materials to use that are washable, soft, and possibly with different textures to add interest…
—Karen on January 23, 2013I need to be inspired by the colors, fabrics, projects, and people there. I always have to chat with the owner and see what unique things she has been doing.
—Ellen on January 23, 2013I must visit my favorite local quilt shop because I need absolutely nothing!!! But there is always SOMETHING I MUST just have!
—Cathy on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop for some White with Red polka dot fabric to use for my WILD in TEXAS quilt! I also could use a Quilt in a Day 9 1/2 inch square up ruler to use for my Egg Money QUILT!!!
—Donna Harry on January 23, 2013I will be visiting some LQS this weekend because I need to be revitalized. There have been lots of things going on that are beyond my control. One way to step away from this is to focus back on me, even just a little bit. I do this best with Fabric and Friends. I’m hoping to put together a group of my besties and spend the day hitting as many shops as we can. This will leave me with just the right amount of giggles and laughs, fabric and patterns to make me feel I can continue to cope with the other things for awhile!
—Jeannie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I really want them to stay in business! With the economy and all the online shopping, it still gives them a fighting chance. They always (usually) have what I am looking for and I end up buying what I’m not looking for. LOL…they are courteous, helpful and give me so much inspiration. When I have a problem picking fabric for borders or backing, they always come to my rescue. I also love taking classes locally when I can not afford to travel hundreds of miles.
—Kris on January 23, 2013I must visit local quilt shops tomorrow because I need them as much as they need me! Their need is obvious; mine is more complex. When circumstances in life seem to take over, the diversion they provide is nothing less than therapy. It’s cheaper and more enjoyable to shop for fabric than visit a shrink!
—Janice Coltran on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to not feel guilty that I passed up a perfectly good excuse to go! I’m also going to drive a bit further and get acquainted with yet another nifty quilt store I hear is pretty darn great! Recently organized my stash (now that was a job!) and since I discovered I still have room on the shelves, there is the NEED to rectify that, so some new fabrics I can’t live without will be on the list, along with anything else I can’t leave behind. Sometimes I shop like a blizzard will blow in and heaven forbid I might not have the right shade of thread and can’t get out to get it! A blizzard would be nice, altho highly unlikely where I live, but one must be prepared just in case – LOL.
—Paula on January 23, 2013what I need at LQS…companionship; plus they have a very nice cat who always needs petting..!!
—carol on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop because I need to fulfill my goal to have the most fabric when I die because, as we all know, the one who dies with the most fabric wins!
—Carol Kolf on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need some girlfriend time and I never have enough material. I just ove visiting my local quilt shop everyone is so friendly and helpful. It’s really hard to leave. The only reason I do is because I wan to get home and make everything I bought.

—sue hammer on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need …..something!! I’ll think of something by the time I get there; I’m sure….lol
—marjorie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop becase I need more, more, more!!! I don’t really have to have a reason or a project, I just love fabric. I usually have a closet full which I sometimes share with friends. But, most often I just horde it. I will find a piece that is perfect for something. I don’t know what yet, but someday it will be just right. Even if I go for something specific, I usually come home with something totally different. So, it doesn’t matter why you go. Just go get more!
—Tina on January 23, 2013I need to get out of the house. We have been below zero for days and I am needing quilting supplies to sew more projects. I also want to see my friends at my LQS!!
—Cheryl Zehms on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to let them know that I’m willing to support them even in these tough economic times. There are big box stores where I can probably buy cheaper fabric, but why would I want to do that? The fabric that I buy at my local quilt shop is of the best quality. Why would I want to put anything less into my quilts???
—lindawwww on January 23, 2013I need to buy a Martingale book because I am one stamp away from a free book!
—Andrew Kosmowski on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS tomorrow because I need the inspiration, comaraderie, and supplies that it carries. The folks who own and work there keep up with the latest tools and techniques, and the fabrics they carry feed my soul! My visits help keep it open, and we ALL need that!
—Jane McKay on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt store tomorrow because I am hungry for fabric. It is always fun to see and feel it. They always have supplies for my HQ-16 and tools too. The only problem is I am working and it may be a bit hard to get there before they close.
—Linda C on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop because I have not got any new fabric in a week and I have fabric withdraw ,don,t want the shop owner looking for my name in the obituaries because they have not seen my in 8 days
—carolyn on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to be there when the door opens for the Grand Opening Sale in their new location. It’s my home away from home, and I know I will find lots of inspiration and ideas, not to mention help choosing the perfect fabrics. I know some of my ‘quilty" friends will be there too, so I will be able to catch up on their sewing adventures and maybe meet up for lunch out before heading home to sew up a storm!
—Karen in Breezy Point on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need more inspiration!!

—Anne Wiens on January 23, 2013I really have to visit my local quilt shop as my favorite Quilting teacher has a new mystery quilt coming up in a monthly magazine starting in March so I have to look for some fun bright colors for this quilt. Oh I can’t wait for the fun to begin!
—Donna Abotsway on January 23, 2013Last week the local quiltshop was finaly moved to a better place in our town. Because I was very curious how it has turned out and the 10% discount on the first 3 days, I was the 3rd customer that walked in last friday. Of course we talked for a while and then I saw this beatifull blue fabric with little trains in different colors. I had to take it home for a quilt for my trainloving son (11 year) We just found the right pattern and of course I need a bit of orange fabric so now I can go back.
—truus on January 23, 2013With all the cold weather we have been having in northern Canada lately, along with the white landscape, I need to visit my LQS for a blast of color! The warm shades of yellow, red and orange along side the blues and greens, will make me think of warm beaches, sand and tropical heat! My feet are cold, sitting here at my computer. But my toes are starting to tingle just at the thought of the beautiful colorful fabrics. My imagination is taking over with thoughts of the warm quilts I will make from my purchases I will make at my LQS. Then my LQS owner will be able to afford to visit the tropical beaches, while I fondle the fabric I bought at her store and dream.
—Sandra on January 23, 2013I,am definitely visiting at least one of my favorite quilt shops tomorrow. Why? Where else can I be with great people who love fabric and notions like I do! Also, I wouldn’t want to miss the fun!
—Judi Reiss on January 23, 2013I am bored and need some inspiration and fabric and color motivation. I might now go as it is miles and miles, but then again I could be motivated to go…hmmm
—diane on January 23, 2013we don’t really have a local quilt shop closest and best is a good 40 min drive away I will go because I don’t really need fabric ,just the joy of looking, but for sure i will buy more It is the best place for fantastic lessons, and endless inspiration, and the best quilting fabrics Hope just WANTING qualifies for "need"
—Wanda on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to go to work! I work in the only fabric store in my valley. I love playing with the fabric and helping the guests with their projects and showing them what is new that fits their projects or personality. I love shopping vicariously through the guests in our store! Sometimes they show me something I hadn’t seen yet and I just have to have it! Usually the temptation will pass…. For a time… But if I can think of something that needs that fabric, it is going home with me!
—Sheri~mama to eight on January 23, 2013I have to visit my local quilt shops to see, feel and fondle the fabric. To see new books and to catch up with friends
—Debbie Smith on January 23, 2013A fabric fix. I don’t always buy more fabric, just feeling of the fabric is very satisfying. My motto is: Feel the fabric, it’s good for the soul.
—Jennette Cyr on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because it is cheaper than Therapy
Well maybe it isn’t, but I keep telling my husband that it is and so far it has worked for 25 years. I think he knows it isn’t and humors me when I say that to him. I can see him grimacing all the way to the bank!
—Esmeralda Carter on January 23, 2013A fabric fix and it’s cheaper than medications these days. I don’t always buy more fabric, just feeling of the fabric is very satisfying. My motto is: Feel the fabric, it’s good for the soul.
—Jennette Cyr on January 23, 2013I need to because a new one has opened not that far away and I must investigate it!
—Rachelle on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…
…a break between a busy work day and heading home to complete the rest of my day with family. I need a retail therapy break. I need to see the latest shipment of beautiful fabrics. I need to spend just a few moments alone to imagine what I could make with them. I need to spend another few minutes talking to the cheerful staff about something other than work, dinner or who needs Mom’s taxi next. Yes, I do need to visit my local quilt shop. After all, it’s on the way home!
—CarolynR on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS for fablic and thread for the quilts I am making for the Veteran Hospital for Memorial Day and the 4th of July! My husband is a Navy Vet and he gave me $500 for a challenge of getting as many quilts (lap) done for these two days for the veterans hospital and he will than double it for me to use to create my sewing/craft room in our new home which we will be closing on next Wed.. My husbands father is also a vet and so was his grandfather(we lost him last year in Dec.) and have had to visit the veterans hospital so we dicedid to give back and since my husband supports my hobby he decided to make it a way to help and of course give me another challenge that I never pass up, LOL! So off to my LQS tomorrow to begin the search for these wonderful vets!
—Jody on January 23, 2013I must visit my LQS because I’m short of Material-Yeh sure -Like that’s true.LOL Really-really I need Thread.
—ELIZABETH CROSS on January 23, 2013Because i need absolutely everything. I am a newby to quilting and there is
—EJ on January 23, 2013Soooooooo much to try.
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…that Cozy feeling. Cozy Quilt Shop, home of the Strip Tube Ruler, where each month I can get a pattern designed for 2 1/2 inch strips free at strip club. Or a pattern designed for fat quarters every other month. It’s a great place to make new friends and have a laugh, shop for beautiful fabrics and patterns and learn new techniques. Owner Daniela Stout and her staff are always fun and helpful. There is always something on sale and many great deals to be had. Quilt in a Day is not too far from me either. Eleanor Burns has been such an inspiration! I am fortunate to have many wonderful quilt shops nearby. Tomorrow is Visit Your Local Quilt Shop(s) Day. Not that I need an excuse!
—Diane on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because there has to be another class that I just have to take and of course I will need all the supplies because it is so much easier to coordinate all the fabrics at one time than to pick and chose through my stash. I can always use a bigger stash anyway.
—Pat on January 23, 2013I must visit the local quilt shop tomorrow because I need a 1200 ft spool of LYI quilting thread ecru 40/3. My wife who is a fabulous quilter and my daughters "The Bitchy Stitcher" and Kelly of the Quilters Attic will not do this for me. My sacrilege is this will not be used for quilting but for twisting into scale rigging line for the model ship I am building.
—John S. Smith on January 23, 2013I need fabric, fabric and more fabric
—Michele on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS’s on January 24th because I need to get out into the fabulous 60 degree Colorado weather and visting all the goodies there to find new toys is the best late January outing I can imagine!
—Goldie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need… More thread to finish my sewing machine cover I am quilting. Hoping I win the book! Thanks for giving us a chance to win it!
—Kathy Gates on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to pet the pretty fabric.
—Michelle Barry on January 23, 2013Inspiration! I have a lot of ideas floating around in my mind, but trying to focus on one creative idea and get going on the project just seems allusive. I almost feel overwhelmed. What project to choose, what color scheme, what fabric. Going to my local quilt shop, talking to the ladies, getting in on the current ideas and projects seem to clear my mind and give me a sense of direction. I go home inspired and start creating my masterpiece.
—Janice on January 23, 2013What do I need??? Nothing – I have lots of thread, a huge stash and projects waiting for me. I’ll visit my quilt shop tomorrow because I love it!! I go for the social aspect, inspiration, touch and feel the beautiful fabrics and enjoy the feast for my eyes. It’s a wonderful shop, filled with ideas and owned by a very talented lady. It’s a visit for the soul….. and of course a few things things to bring home.
—Dianne Bondaroff on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS … because I want her to continue to be my LQS. We have lost 2 out of 5 LQS in the last two years and the closest of those is at least 15 miles away. Widening the circle (not counting the i’net) is 50 miles. SO! I want them all to stay in business.
—Claudia on January 23, 2013AND, she has been good to me. I’ve won gift certificates twice in the last year (I saved one for lunch tomorrow), so it seems like the kind thing to do.
AND, she’s a fun gal with a fun shop in a little town that is trying to re-invent itself and stay alive!
AND, I’m taking a quilting friend too.
I can’t find my wodden pressing tool, and need it for my next project!
—Barbara on January 23, 2013Oh, how I wish I had a local quilt shop to visit! Ours closed last year. If we still had a local quilt shop, I’d visit just to visit! Love spending time with other quilters!
—Lisa E on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need several different borders to go on a UFO that has gone from being a lap quilt to a bed quilt. I will be using Batiks since that’s what the quilt is made up of and will have lots of choices to choose from at the Quilt Store where I bought the Bali Pop at for a Loose Change Quilt class that I took in Dec. of last year. I’ll also be buying backing and binding fabric in addition to the border fabrics. Lucky for me it will be at least a $10 savings because I have a coupon to use for my birthday (which is on Friday the 25th) and the coupon expires on the 31st. No way am I letting that $10 coupon go to waste! I also have a $50 gift certificate to use from a Christmas gift that my hubby gave me. Saving and getting quilting fabric at the same time is always great.
—Debbie Weishaar on January 23, 2013My weekly quilty friends fix! Whether I need fabric, tools, or patterns is immaterial – I just need that interaction with my friends there!
—Sheila Craft on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop tomorrow to buy thread and batting for the long arm I am dreaming of. I dream of Ida Mae (grandmothers name) daily, while sewing. As I am in need of a new car I can’t get one yet, but let me tell you, one of these days, not sure how but God knows, I will have one. I need to get one within 2 years by then I will be running out of room with all that batting. I’m sure I will use it faster than I bought it.
—Laura Lightner on January 23, 2013Because the owner is the sweetest person and she needs visitors. She’s the one everyone goes to for (free) advice, help selecting co-ordinating fabrics or that "gotta have" new bunch of fat quarters. She’s the one that organizes the classes and stays late so someone can finish up. She is the one who puts items on sale "just because" and gives freely of her time. She orders items for quilters who "definitely want "that" and then she never sees them again! She goes the extra mile in displaying fabrics and notions only to have have hordes of "shopppers" "fondle" and "dismantle" the displays!
—Sandra on January 23, 2013LQS shop owners ~ We thank you!!
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need… to recheck my pattern more correctly to buy enough fabric to complete the full project the first time.
—Shelley Gardner on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need my fabric fix! I have enough UFOs to keep my busy for the next 5 years…but I just have to go and see what is new in fabrics, tools and patterns.
—Susan S on January 23, 2013I need NEW inspiration… new pattern or two…. and some raspberry colored fabric !
—Doris on January 23, 2013My question is WHICH LQS(es) to visit? There are 3 within a half hour drive, and I could happily spend a couple of hours in each, checking out books, patterns, and the fabric to make them into UFOs.
—Lynne on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local fabric shop (Marti’s Fabric Studio) to check out all the new fabric that wasn’t there yet today when I was in. I also should be dropping off and possibly picking up some of the other gals quilts to quilt for them. Oh I can’t wait till tomorrow!
—Maralyn on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to work there as a long arm quilting teacher. I need to work there to pay for my quilting habit. I need the quilt shop to stay open to supply me with all the fabric, thread and batting I must have in order to enjoy my quilting addiction, er, my hobby. We need each other!
—Vicki Sprain on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local Quilt shop tomorrow because they are giving a free gift to the first 50 customers, and they are having fat quarters buy 1 get 1 free, and it is my Birthday 72 years. Carol
—Carol Dunn on January 23, 2013I Must visit my LQS because if I don’t support her, she and all her wonderful addiction-fulfilling items will be gone and I will have to wander the streets until I find my next fix – pitiful!!!
—Barbara on January 23, 2013I am a Fabricaholic. So guess what I need!
—Pauline Cabana on January 23, 2013I need to go to my favorite qut shop for Synthrapol to home prewash my favorite fabric — batiks.
—Pat Price on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need… to know what they might have that I didn’t know I needed!
—Sandy on January 23, 2013If I do not visit my quilt shop, I start to exhibit behaviors that make my friends think I am ill. I pace, I eat, I groan. I look into my cabinet 50 times a day, and think well it looks the same as it did 10 minutes, still no inspiration. I pet my machine, and tell it I will be using her soon. And yes, soon enough, my withdrawal symptoms subside as soon as I hit the door at JoAnns and find whats new. I come home with more fabric and start another project.
—Paulette Poe on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need inspiration for new projects.
—John S on January 23, 2013I couldn’t wait until tomorrow. . .so I shopped on Monday. . .bought fabrics for a carrot placemat. When I walked in, I told them I hoped that they didn’t mind that I was supporting them early!!! The staff just chuckled. As I work on a piecing project today, I’m running out of background fabric, so that is what I’ll be buying tomorrow!!! I’m so glad this shop is near my house, the staff is so helpful!!!
—Terry K on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop on the 24th because all you people have been blabbing about how we should all visit and support our local quilt shop and there will be so many people visiting tomorrow that they might sell all of that great Christmas fabric with the goofy dogs on it that I didn’t buy because I didn’t know what I wanted to make out of it and I already have more fabric than I’ll ever live to use up but now I have to buy it because I might not get any!
(At least that’s what I’m telling my hubby!)
Peggy, we are more than happy to take the blame! ~Cornelia from Martingale
—Peggy Forbes on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local Quilt shop tomorrow because I am just beginning to quilt. I know the local shops will have finished quilts to look at and sales persons that will guide me. My "color" eye is not developed yet. So seeing is important to me. I also know that my local helpers will not let me purchase a project that I’m not ready for.
—Joanne Esper on January 23, 2013I must visit my local local quilt shop because my friend and and I who I have convinced to start quilting again to look at some fabric that she will need to finish a project that she has started some years ago and I want to make a table runner and I need some plain fabric. We will be going out tomorrow to visit as many quilt shops as we can.
Grace C. on Jan. 23 2013
—Grace Ciaffoni on January 23, 2013I need to see the friendly faces of the staff to brighten this rainy week!
—Elizabeth Bolton on January 23, 2013because i need more thread…and needles…and fabric…who doesn’t need more fabric?
—Shirley on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I want to get fabric to make my granddaughter, Amelia, a Valentine tablerunner. She was married on August 18, 2012 and I have been making her tablerunners as each season comes along. Valentines Day has always been special in their family because her maiden name is "Valentine".
—Nancy Angelo on January 23, 2013I must visit my LOS tomorrow because I hear they have some of my hubby’s favorite college flannel and he sure needs a new pair of lounging pajama pants and he won’t anything BUT flannel pajama pants from HIS team. AND I need some insipiration. I’m having "quilter’s block".
—Sherie Christiansen on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shops (Kapaia Stitchery and Vicky’s Fabrics) to bring flowers and cookies to Jean and Maile, the owners of these wonderful shops. Want to be sure they know how much they are appreciated and valued on our sweet island of Kauai. Oh…and at the same time…maybe pick up a few things that I need!!!
—Melissa E. on January 23, 2013wish we had a local quilt shop. we drive 45 – 60 min. to get to a quilt shop. SO ROAD TRIP GIRLS THURSDAY. Hope all the Quit Shops have a GOOD DAY.
—elr on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need NOTHING!!!
—Dottie on January 23, 2013But then, need is a relative thing in the quilting world, or any other obsessive hobby.
I was thinking just that thought an hour ago!
I want to hunt for a snap-on zipper foot that I saw on an on-line demonstration. I don’t know the brand. The zipper teeth go through a channel in the zipper foot so the sewing line is always perfect. I don’t think it is for a hidden or concealed zipper. Just the regular type of zipper. I will use it for making zipper closures for bags and such!
—Sandra M. on January 23, 2013When I began quilting, 14 years ago, my friend and I used to have a ‘Quilting Tuesday’ each week.
We’d drop our kids off at school then head off to our chosen suburb and spend the day checking out quilt shops and having a lovely lunch. We had so many to choose from in those days.
I must visit my local quilt shop because where there used to be dozens of little quilt shops to visit, there are only 5 or 6 left.
Times are hard and we must support the retailers that support our love of quilting.
—Kayt on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because – well just because I love to look at all that beautiful fabric and no matter how much I have, I can always use some more.
—Gidget on January 23, 2013. . . my favorite local quilt shop, Whipporill Station in Belleview, FL closed down last year. This time last year I was busy buying up beautiful fabrics as the bolts went down to 50%, 55%, 60%, and 70% off. It was bittersweet buying fabrics I had drooled over for many years that I could now get a yard or two of because it was such a great deal; but it was so sad to realize why we were getting these good deals. I teach special needs 3, 4, and 5-year olds and I would reward myself on Friday afternoons by stopping in and adding a fat quarter to my stash. Now I drive by and remember fondly the beautiful quilts and ideas on display, the quilters I conversed with, and wish the owner a secret prayer of health and happiness in her new dwelling out of state. I am loving using the huge stash of fabric in my 5 quilts I am finishing now and all the ones to come.
—carolyn white on January 23, 2013Gotta get to my LQS because the owners (Linda and Brenda) rely on me to add to my stash thereby keeping their business in the black. Besides, they are always willing to give me a free lesson on using the machine I purchased from them. For as often as I see them, I’d say we’re family. Lol.
—Judy on January 23, 2013I must visit my local shop tomorrow beacause: I need to get a few more things on my way to the retreat , I need to touch the soft fabric, I need to oggle the beautiful new colors, I just need a LQS fix! Lucky me gets three stops in one morning adn not more that 20 miles of driving!
—Kathy Gaines on January 23, 2013because…. I can!
—Geri on January 23, 2013I MUST visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because . . . . we have our Eleanor Burns Block Party class scheduled and I am basically a permanent fixture at Needle and Thread, the only quilt shop in Statesville, North Carolina. I am addicted to quilting and even have my "own" table where I keep my sewing machine, tools and projects that I work on practically every day the shop is open. It’s a great place to create art and meet tons of interesting people.
—Bonnie on January 23, 2013I must visit my Local Quilt Shop tomorrow because I need more "Stiff Stuff" batting for a tote bag and some spray adhesive for basting.
—Carole Tutko on January 23, 2013My 12 year old granddaughter,Anna, received a sewing machine for Christmas. It was number 1 on her list.
—DONNA BEATTIE on January 23, 2013We sat down together and explored threading the bobbin and machine, straight stitching forward and backward as well as additional stitches including stitch length and width. She was elated her new machine did all of these things.
I provided some home deco fabric with a large plaid pattern. We cut many squares for practice fabric. We learned how to cut matching squares and then how to stitch along these plaid lines. We had covered
the basics of quilting. I left her alone to practice and she sewed on several blocks and did a curved line satin stitch on her own. She is
a natural with the machine and showed creativity.
Anna is anxious to begin projects on her machine. We need to go to our
local quilt shop on January 24th so Anna can choose fabric, threads, supplies and notions of her own. It will be her birthday gift. We will
take photos to remember the occasion. I could give her all of these items from my extensive quilting supplies but these will be of her choice. It will be a day to remember.
Anna is interested in beginning to attend the monthly club at our local
quilt shop and will be able to participate in Show & Tell. Soon she will come to regional and national quilt shows with me.
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…to redo a quilt top for someone that is very dear to me and this quilt is very dear to her. So I very much want to redo this quilt top for her, no matter the cost.
—Rose Cannon on January 23, 2013My 12 year old granddaughter,Anna, received a sewing machine for Christmas. It was number 1 on her list.

I am making quilts for 3 nephews and 2 nieces (the oldest being 2)who live in Regina, Saskatchewan who we are going to visit for the first time later this year and I need fabric. I am currently making a girl scrappy ‘Around the World’ (my first) and need some fabric for a boy one to go with my scraps.
—vicki on January 23, 2013to show up for "work"!
—Carol Deiber on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I work there and want it to stay in business. Also I have the day off and can actually take as long as I want to look at fabric and decide what I want to make for our very first grandchild thats due in July. I want to make a quilt that will last through the years and mean something special when taken out after being packed away for that childs first baby. That kind of quilt needs to be made with good quality fabric and lots of love.
—Tammy Hawley on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow,
If missing the fun, there’s nothing but sorrow.
There’s demos on order and refreshments for all,
Door Prizes promised and quilts on the wall.
We’re bringing our favorite quilts in as well,
And asking for others, as we "Show n Tell"
Our bests and our worsts, and nothing forgotten.
Every old quilt that remains made of cotton
I know I need fabric to bind that large ‘bed’ ,
& pick up a blade, and then some more thread.
I’ll chat with fellow stitchers, share in the news
of fabrics and patterns and shows in reviews.
When planning our roadtrips and all that we’d rather,
Bright Hopes Quilting is "where quilters gather"
And when the day ends and I head on home,
I’ll think of the day and remember this poem.
There’s quilts to be finished and those to begin
—Chris T on January 23, 2013My Love for my Quilt Shop resides deep within.
I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow to see what’s new in fabric since I was last there and also to celebrate quilting with those friends who share in my craft. I love to visit a quilt shop any time and for no reason at all – it just makes me feel good to be there with all the colors and patterns and soak it all up.
—Phyllis Ryan on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt store tomorrow because I need to feel the fabric. I love to run my fingers across the fabric as I take in all the colors. I also will probably buy some fabric for a baby quilt. And, since I’m going to a retreat sponsored by my LQS this weekend, I need to say hi to all the gals in the shop.
—JanetB on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop BECAUSE. Isn’t that the real reaon? Just like my mom used to say when I asked,"Why?" The answer was "because," and that’s a good enough reason to go to the quilt shop today, tomorrow or any day!
—Vickie - Tucson on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to commune with fellow quilters and shop owners/employees. It’s January and the holidays are over so I need to get some inspiration to quilt and laugh with other quilters ….. now!!!
—Karen L. on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS so I can admire and pet all the new fabrics that have arrived in her shop. I will then give myself permission to purchase a new pattern and the fabric to go with it. Why dig into my stash when I need to support my LQS.
—Cathy K. on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop tomorrow to continue to support them. I do not like the quality of fabric I could buy from Walmart’s and the other local fabric store. I prefer to go where If I need information on a subject, I have immediate access to the shop’s vast knowledge. I want them to continue to show a profit so that we will have a quilt shop in this area.
—Sue Doucet on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…..some sleep!?! Since the closest shop is a 3-hour drive away, the only way to visit for me is to do it in my dreams. Online shopping is my only outlet. I’ve become great friends with the UPS guy……he IS kinda cute…….maybe there’s a market for quilty-themed prose. Hmmm…"Fifty Shades of Fabric"? Or maybe "Twilight: Breaking Threads". Perhaps a song? "….he sent a bolt of love right through my heart when he charmed me with his smile…" Sigh.
—Cheryl L on January 23, 2013Today is "Local Quilt Shop Day" in Australia and I am calling in on my way home, where I know I will be greeted with a cheery hello and a big smile…what a great finish for the day and I get to play with fabric as well…not that I need anything, but I am sure I will find some lovely treasure to add to my stash…LindaB
—LindaB on January 23, 2013I MUST visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I NEED to give her back a little of what the LQS has given me enlightening my soul, injecting my heart with happiness and making me feel I can go through challenges. So… why not do a little bit for her by investing something she really needs to stay standing there for me and for many more women, who through LQS also help good causes. Rosa.
—Rosa Giron on January 23, 2013I have to visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I am making my first flannel quilt for my grand daughter (to be born in April). I started the squares for either a boy or girl, then my daughter found out she was having a girl and wanted purples and lavenders in the quilt, so I keep needing additional fabrics with these colors to finish my raggedy squares quilt. (Bit I’m having fun!)
—Pauline on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need my "fix." I get a natural high when I’m in the midst of bolts and bolts of cottons in all colors and prints. I find just being there inspires my creativity and chills me out better than …. well, almost better than sitting on "Some beach. Somewhere." There’s another reason I must visit tomorrow. There’s always some new quilter standing in an aisle looking completely flummoxed. That quilter is going to need me because I’m retired and I have time to help. Whether I bring home yards of fabric, a spool of thread, the latest gadget, or nothing at all, I’ll come home with a full and happy heart.
—VickiGene on January 23, 2013I must visit my local local quilt shop because it’s the ultimate retail therapy. Why pay a therapist when you can get the same value in luxurating in the textures, colors, and excitement of fabric. Fabric renews the soul with potentiality–each of those items are a quilt waiting to be brought forth!
—MaryRose on January 23, 2013…to add to my "Sewing Shed" to ensure it is as well supplied as the "Husband Shed"
—Christine on January 23, 2013thread, fabric, a pattern, a foot for my machine, but more often – a "fix", an affirmation, the companionship of fellow quilters, inspiration, encouragement, and the friendship of kindred spirits.
—Elaine Urban on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop because it is a place I can see new fabrics, patterns and inspirational finished projects. It’s also a good place to visit with some of the best people around. I love my local shop ladies (4 sisters). They also give me great advice and occasionally choose different fabrics than I would. It’s great to get another opinion on color choices!!
—Diane Lindberg on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because they need me every bit as much as I need them. To stay in business, they need all of us quilters! To make quality quilts, we need them! I can’t wait!!
—Pat Sell on January 23, 2013I want to visit my LQS tomorrow, but I can’t because I have a virus, and it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to be there drooling over all the wonderful fabrics, threads, and other goodies, or sneezing near the sales people or other customers. I will miss the inspiration, and the chance to let them know how much I appreciate having them here in a small town, and all their help and encouragement. I’ll miss the elation of finding something new and wonderful and making it all mine.
—Pat Pfeiffer on January 23, 2013I must visit my Local Quilt Shop tomorrow because I need INSPIRATION! And
—Barb Johnson on January 23, 2013maybe just one or two more fat quarters, or some thread, or a new ruler, or whatever I am "inspired" to purchase. ^.^
Need….need?? Fabric, yes that’s it I need more fabric!
—Nancy on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because if I don’t use it, I’ll lose it. Simple economics
—ronnie on January 23, 2013I must vivit my local quilt shop tomorrow because the owner and I are going to bartet wiht each other. I have a new felting machine and do not plan on using it. She has been wantting one. We talked about it. So, I’m going to go to the shop to show . I’m so excited , she has everthing . I will pick something I wouldn’t buy on my own. Can’t wait till tomorrow.
—Sharon Thielemier on January 23, 2013…for friendly faces, fun conversation, and inspiring fabrics (a few yards of which may come home with me…).
—Catie G on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I want to go to Heaven and my local quilt shop is the nearst thing to it.
—Sue Goodin on January 23, 2013to fondle fabric, I’m going through withdrawals! And as long as I’m there, I should probably pick up a quilt batt for the top I’m about to finish and maybe see what they have for my next project, oh and I need a spool of red thread and I wonder if the new ……..are in, oh and maybe I’ll run into…….
—Linda on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need to pamper myself…. today I am celebrating my birthday. A few years ago, I decided that I was not going to work on my birthday and I always take a vacation day. I am going to get my hair done, have a massage and now I will go to the quilt shop and buy some beautiful fabrics. Gotta love a day like this!!!!!
—Dodie on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…to take pictures inside the shop so I can post about visiting! Plus, it’s their annual Quilters Sale!!
—Deb on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need…. more PINS!!! Someone or something has eaten another package of them and I want to sew my quild’s BOM before the meeting! And while I am there I might as well wallow in the beautiful fabric and pick up a yard or so. It wouldn’t hurt to add a book or two to my shelves either….
—Nancy Fry on January 23, 2013I must visit my LQS because I love being in there. I need to see if there is something that calls out to me…. That I can’t possibly live without. The owners are very accommodating and I love to support them,…and I can’t think of a better thing to do after suffering thru physical therapy!
—Terry Back on January 23, 2013Terry Back
I must visit my LQS because I am a very lucky and priviledged person to know the owner and teachers and repair people of my store. It’s like we’re family. These people will help you with ANYTHING. They stand behind their products 100%. I have been going there for six years now and I love these people. Wonderful teachers, friendly atmosphere. They help you with colors, and any sewing, embroidery, software questions or problems you might have. And they back their machines for 5 years free service. And free lessons as many times as you need. When they teach a class, they are really knowledgeable about what they are teaching. And it doesn’t end there.
—Sheila Wagner on January 23, 2013I need to visit my LQS tomorrow because I need more fabric so I can win the most fabric when I die award. I have to be in the running because everyone at church says that if you can’t find it anywhere else, go see Cheri, she’ll have it. Also she help you figure out how to use up all those tiny pieces, making doll clothes, baby quilts or whatever else you have in mind.
—Cheri Williams on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow partly because of the special day and because I haven’t been since before Christmas. My husband bought me a gift card as a present and it’s burning a hole in my pocketbook. Sylvia’s here I come!!!!!!
—Linda Yannikos on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need a pick-me-up. It is great to "window" shop…to see the fabrics, kits, finished quilts on display, new gadgets and browse the books and magazines to add to my wishlist.
—Jackie Mann on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop becase I want to make a memory quilt using my wedding dress.I’ve never quilted before and it is on my "to-do" list.
—Julene Matthews on January 23, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow NOT because I NEED anything — like others, I’ll probably never quilt all the fabric I already have! — but because I’m always on the search for "the perfect" (fill in the blank — yellow, green, blue, white-on-white, beige-on-beige, etc.) color to complete my stash so that I won’t need to go again until next year! And, three really good quilt shops in our area closed last year; if I don’t go to Flying Geese they might leave me too, and that would be another minor tragedy!
—Sue Chapman on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt store tomorrow for a fabric fix (even though I had one today), inspiration, friends who know what I mean when I say whosiewhatsit, thingamajig, deelybopper, etc. We all speak the same language
—Paule-Marie on January 23, 2013I must visit a LQS tomorrow that is about 90 minutes away from my house because I am listening to a really racy book on tape in the car and need the long drive to find out what happens next. When I walk into the LQS I will have an ear to ear grin on my face…before I even spend any money on fabric, books, patterns or tools!
—Julie G on January 23, 2013I need to visit my local quilt shop on Friday to get my "fix" for the week on new fabrics, ideas, threads and patterns – can’t wait! Linda. Cambridge UK.
—Linda Phillipd on January 24, 2013I need to visit my local Quilt Shop tomorrow because I need some pink fabric so I can complete 72 kits for the members of my Quilt Group. It has to be just the right shade of pink – none of the pinks I already have will do.
I wish I was in the US right now as I would be supporting all the quilt shops I found! (I spent nearly $200 in quilt shops -and more in JoAnn’s – when I was there over Christmas and the New Year. I filled an extra suitcase.))
—Gloria on January 24, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop today because Melany who runs The Fabric Shop in Melrose is lovely, full of inspiration and never tires of explaining techniques.
—Rosie on January 24, 2013I need to soothe my nerves by massaging some fabric and taking in a visual dose of color. I need to look, breathe and feel all the patterns, ideas and mental stimulation. On a stressful week such as this I don’t say, "Take me away Calgon man!" I say, "Take me to the nearest fabric shop." Works every time.
—Joan Hershberger on January 24, 2013I can’t visit LQS because I haven’t. In my country the art of quilting is not very known. But few shops I visit every day /Fabric Shack, e Quilter,QuiltFabricCloseouts and ect./to see the sales and to shop online. From Martingale I buy eBooks. From Craftsy – online lessons. The Global network give me the possibility to do my hobby and is my enormous LQS.Some of my quilts give to my friends like presents, some I sale and try to show to the people how wonderful is to decorate the home with quilts.
—Helen on January 24, 2013Wait, I need a reason to visit my local quilt shop? I never needed one before. Actually, I plan on visiting two local quilt shops because I am looking for a specific color of red fabric to complete a quilt top I am working on, but mostly because I want to. It’s my day off from work and fabric shopping trumps cleaning house every time.
—Colleen Terry on January 24, 2013I need to go to my LQS because 1st it’s a holiday right!Visit your Local Quilt Shop Day! second I’m like a addict and I need my quilt fix! I need to make a quilt for Spring cause I’m kinda sick of winter.
—Judy Garrett on January 24, 2013I’m headed to my local quilt shop today to support Quilt shop day. I live in a vary small rural community and WJ’s is the only quilt/fabric store for 30 miles, except Wal-mart. The lady who owns the store is very friendly and helpful and gives me lots of free advice. I’m so glad she and her daughter opened thier little store, I hate using the BIG BOX stores!
—Rita McCart on January 24, 2013more than I can afford!!
—Gloria Rhoads on January 24, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I need some "Fabric Therapy". Running my hands over the various fabrics, combining all those different patterns and color values is very relaxing to me.
—Mary on January 24, 2013I started quilting about a year ago with "cheater" fabric doing purses and selling them. I also did some pillows and quilted around the figures, etc. Then I met a new best friend who quilts, who introduced me to another new best friend (who also introduced me to paper piecing), and I am hooked. I have done several smaller projects and now I am working on a queen size quilt for my son. I love to go to the quilt shop whether I need anything or not. I have already learned that you just can not have too much fabric and I love getting new ideas.
—Cynthia J. Benedum on January 24, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I Need my Fix!
—Marie Hargrave on January 24, 2013Well, now it is the 24th and I really do need a fabric, a clear deep green, to add to a quilt top I am making for my sister-in-law who is having a third hip replacement operation,on the same hip, next week. I thought I could do it all from my stash but my greens are either too mossy or too light…………so, !Hurrah! I get to go shopping in Paradise, and maybe in more than one if the right green is difficult to find. I am sure I will find something that catches my eye, and my heart, even if I don’t find the green. Thank Heaven for Local Quilt Shops!!
—Nancy on January 24, 2013I must visit my local quilt shops because i can. As a quilter it has not a lot to do with need, It is an obsession. An obsession with the look, feel and smell of fabric. I just got to get me some. It does not matter how much we have in a stash, there is always another fabric we gotta have, If for no other reason than to pet it. I will visit my shops because i am drawn to them just like if they were a fine candy store. All the goodness and calorie free. So you will find me with cash in hand going from shop to shop getting my fix. Happy quilting and petting to all, LOL.
—Sharon Meyer on January 24, 2013The "pick me up" feeling I get when I see the new colors and collections is so incredible that I go to my happy place. Then I just have to touch. Can’t help myself. As I was shopping for fabric one day, I noticed a girl about thirteen years old. She was walking down an isle and with her bare arm she brushed every fabric gently. I thought that this girl will some day be a quilter and she doesn’t even know it yet.
—Marsha Nelson on January 24, 2013need nothing but want everything.
—Vee Race on January 24, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I love to see what’s new and spend time with the people who work there. It is always a good time visiting and sometimes other customers bring in show and tell. What would we do if we didn’t have that choice to spend time with others who share our passion!
—Agatha on January 24, 2013I never need a reason to visit my LQS. Sometimes, I just stop by to say hello. I have recently learned a dear friends very favorite color and I have the need to buy fabrc for her unexpected gift. Out of my entire stash, I don’t have large pieces of her color.
A shopping, I will go,
A shopping, I will go.
Hi Ho the Dairy-O
To the quilt store, I go.
Keep smiling,
—Lynnita Shipman on January 24, 2013I must visit my LQS because I need to go visit friends that work there.
—Sallie on January 24, 2013Because I need absolutely nothing, but once I get there I’ll find lots of goodies I can’t live without and friendly faces too.
—Kathy on January 24, 2013It’s like a sprng rain everything smells so much better – you just need to get a whiff of the quilt shop air to know the fun is about to begin
—Sharon on January 24, 2013It has been bitter cold here in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. A trip to my LQS, Bee Fabrics with its bright, modern fabrics, warm staff and quirky samples is just the thing to warm up the soul. While I don’t neeeeeeeed anything, I know I will come home with something to add to my stash or to just sit on my shelf and provide inspiration. Thanks, girls!!!
—Susan on January 24, 2013I must visit my local fabric shop because I need to get my "fix" on touching the fabric. I know my blood pressure drops when I do this and I feel refreshed and creative. I always help the local economy, too.
—Janey on January 24, 2013. . . I work there! But I can’t wait to use the great coupon they are offering for LQS day. Besides, I want to see who else comes.
—Evelyn Geene on January 24, 2013I am going to start a thread painting project today so I need to get some particular thread colors. I also need to buy Solvy. I love to just go to the quilt store and see who is there and what is going on. My grandson wanted to go in with me one time he said "I bet they even know your name" when I walked in they all called me by name and asked about certain projects I was working on. He was impressed.
—Barbara on January 25, 2013I need some extra batik fabrics for my granddaughters graduation quilt. I would also like to visit with the ladies that work there and check out their newer projects and fabrics. It is always a pleasant visit. Jan
—janis spencer on January 25, 2013I needed to visit the quilt shop because I am restoring my cousin’s quilt that my grandmother made for her when she got married 30 years ago. She used whatever was on hand to make them. This one stared with part of a sheet with pretty blue flowers, one boarder has tiny purpley blue and yellow flowers and the last boarder is turqouis. She ran short of material on the back using that satiny fabric used to trim blankets along the outer edge. Over the years of use and loving that satiny fabric has worn away. The quilt was hand quilt and many of the stiches are also gone. After about 3 hours and two shops later I found the perfect fabric to bring it all together keeping with feeling of the quilt. For the back boarder I need to replace I found a soft blue to a darker blue blend of angle wings, then to bring the back and front together a bold colour blend that is various shades of blues, purples and yellow. I must have looked at over 500 fabrics to find this perfect duel. I to have am so lucky to have sho many choices to shop for fabric here in Calgary.
—CHRISTINA MACKENZIE on January 25, 2013I need to help the store stay in business, to make sure the ladies still have a job, and to visit the friends that I have made while I’m keeping everyone happy while shopping. In fact, one day my husband couldn’t get in touch with me, he called the store and had me paged!! True story!! It still gets a laugh from the girls when I come into the store.( Does your husband know where you are? )
—Julianne Cerullo on January 25, 2013Making a darling outfit for my two granddaughters. What is more fun than sewing for the Valentine’s Day holiday than making matching outfits. My mother used to make linen coats for us three girls in red for the special day. I need some tulle in pink and red for their skirts and stretchy headband flowers and jewels. My grandson is not left out since he is getting his own pillowcase for the occasion and maybe a toy. Cars fabric is so available now so I might pick up some as a fabric gift bag. I could go one and on but as you can see my ideas are endless. I frequent the fabric store once or twice a week. It’s my time to see new products and dream of the next project ahead. Love those quilt shops.
—Susie cross on January 25, 2013to see my friends and all the lovely new cloth and classes offered!
—Cindy S on January 25, 2013inspiration!!!! You can only get it when you can touch the fabrics!!!!!
—Kim on January 25, 2013In Venezuela we have a quilt shop that sells what seems to me like "seconds" although they don’t honestly declare it but I have been to enough Local Quilt Shops in the USA and I know the difference. The "help" are a couple of grumpy Venezuelan teenagers who hardly say Good Morning, so if you have a LQS in your area I urge you to visit it and enjoy, I shall be thinking of you and enjoying many fond memories of the terrific welcome I have received in many shops all over the USA.
—Juliet Wood on January 25, 2013That is how I stay connected to our small town. I spend a lot of time at home; stopping by the LQS is where I chat and get caught up on news.
—Beth T. on January 25, 2013I NEED fabric? I actually don’t NEED anything. That would all fall under the category of : Desperately Want
Thanks for the chance to win.
—Karrie Smith on January 26, 2013As easy as it is to shop on line – there is no replacement for the personal touch i get when i visit. If we all would visit today, we will hopefully ensure there will many tommorows.

—Susan on January 26, 2013The staff at my favorite quilt shop are always friendly, fun, and helpful. There are always fun sample projects hanging on the walls and sitting on the shelves. Wandering through the fabric displays is soothing and stimulating. Eavesdropping on other shoppers’ ideas stimulates my own imagination. While some people go for a jog or get a massage to deal with stress, I go to my favorite LQS. It gives me a lift every time!
—Susan E on January 26, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop tomorrow because I need to buy MORE fabric to match the fabric that I own but can’t remember what project I bought it for!
—Barbara McCart on January 26, 2013Must visit my LQS for inspiration, fellowship and FABRIC.
—Darlene Joyner on January 26, 2013Visiting our local quilt shop is not only exciting for quilters, but for the shop. they need us… not only to buy their goods, but also they need to know there are serious sewers out there… who value the time and chance they take to order the fabulous fabric that they make available for us to shop for.
—Suz C. on January 27, 2013You can get fabric at most big stores, but you don’t get that expertise and lovely willing assistance at the local quilt shop.
Thank you for this opportunity.
Suzanne
MORE! MORE! MORE!!! I ventured out to the local quilt show last Friday where there were going to be approximately 30 vendors. I thought I would spend a little "quality" time in each shop and that I would be inspired by what each had to offer. But the weather had other ideas and there was an ice storm that turned me back home. I decided to go the next day (finding out that they had closed early the day before because of the weather!) and I was not let down… there was MORE fabric, MORE ideas and MORE inspiration that set my imagination whirling. That’s when I was reminded that we need each other to perpetuate the art of quilting. That can only be achieved through networking with other quilters and the local quilt shop. Thanks Quilt Shop owners… you are "MORE" appreciated than you know!!
—Lynne R on January 27, 2013Because I need to find someone to tune up my old sewing machine. I also want to get inspired
—Carmen on January 27, 2013I must visit my local quilt shop because I have to turn the closed sign around to open, then vacuum the floor, then decide on what to put on sale for my customers for the day. Then I also need to get ready for Thursday nights Sew-In at the shop. Also I have to start cutting on the mystery quilt I am doing with my guild and has to be ready to show the first step at the meeting on Friday. Oh and start quilting Amy’s quilt I got in the mail on Tuesday! I am looking forward to another great week at my local quilt shop.
