Kim DiehlThe air has become crisp and cool, leaves are turning tawny shades of gold, and I’ve busted out my best fuzzy socks. This can only mean that autumn is here! And thanks to a very timely delivery by the package man in the big brown truck, so are my Simple Harvest quilts and projects. After months of my projects being away for photography, they’re finally back home!

Maybe I should be a little bit embarrassed to tell you how fast I ripped into the boxes (the phrase “monkey on a banana” comes to mind), but I have no shame when it comes to all things fall. My two-year-old grandie, Puddin Cup, gladly helped me unwrap the “fancy blankies” and we had the best time petting wool and welcoming my harvest-time goodies back home.

Each book in my “Simple” series has been special to me, and there was a time when I couldn’t possibly have picked a favorite, but that was before Simple Harvest! With no arm-twisting whatsoever, I can freely admit that stitching the quilts and projects for this book totally took me to my happy place, and being able to include recipes for my favorite harvesttime munchies (which of course meant MUCH sampling) shot this book right to the top of my list.

A recipe to share from Simple Harvest: Buttery Caramel Corn! Martingale content director Karen Soltys made this goodie as a gift for her knitting group and they loved it. Download a pdf of the recipe here.

My approach to decorating for autumn has always been to stitch a variety of projects that can be tucked all around the house, rather than spreading a single quilt on the bed and calling it good.

Autumn Abundance Bedroom Set
Autumn-infused pillows, plus a bed runner and curtain topper: Autumn Abundance Bedroom Set

Whipping up scads of quilted throws, bed runners, wall hangings, pillows, mug mats, and more gives you the ability to surround yourself with little bits of harvesty goodness, often in surprising and unexpected places. Even better, many of these Simple Harvest projects are perfect for some on-the-go hand stitching, and their size makes them super approachable—they can be easily started AND finished.

Thank you so much for letting me share a little bit about this book…it’s my hope that you’ll pull on YOUR favorite fuzzy socks, dive into a new autumn project, and enjoy some simple stitching time.
