Celebrating 85 years of fabric fun: join us! (+ big giveaway)

Today we’re celebrating the 85th anniversary of Jaftex, parent company of one of our favorite quilt-fabric companies, Henry Glass. Congratulations to all who’ve been a part of this extraordinary company!

Jaftex 85th Anniversary
Co-sponosors: Aurifil ThreadsSchmetz Needles, and Janome

A blog hop commemorating Jaftex’s milestone has been making stops all over the Internet throughout September. Each blogger on the hop received a bundle of fabric with one simple directive:

Make something.

For the past 28 days, designers have been showing off their creations, and they are ah-ma-zing. Here are some that came from designers who are also Martingale authors.

Clockwise from top left: projects by Linda Lum DeBono, Jill Finley, and Kim Diehl.

So, who was the lucky Martingale staffer to receive a coveted bundle of Henry Glass fabric, along with the “make something” decree? Me.

My bundle: “Folio Basics
from Henry Glass

The brilliant, saturated colors of these fabrics immediately brought to mind a quilt I’ve wanted to make since December 2012—the year Modern Quilts from the Blogging Universe was published.

I decided now was the perfect time to make my own “Jigsaw.”

Folio Puzzle quilt
My version, “Folio Puzzle”

Folio Puzzle quiltIsn’t it funny how a bit of fabric (okay, in this case it was a sumptuous bundle of free fabric from Henry Glass, but you know what I mean), a needle, and thread can provide solitude, comfort, and even therapy? During the few weeks that I worked on this quilt, I helped my elderly father make a difficult move to a new location, survived the first nutty days of school with my two sons, and acted as support for even more first-day-of-school drama (my husband is a 5th-grade teacher). Through the flurry of it all, I kept coming back to this quilt. Twenty minutes here, forty minutes there. The process of making it provided me with a space to get quiet, recharge—and even play a little.

The playing: big-stitch quilting using all the colors of the rainbow (or in this case, all the colors of “Folio”).

The opportunity to make this quilt came to me just when I needed it. Most quilts do, don’t you think? I’m grateful. Many thanks to Jaftex for asking us to be a part of their BIG blog hop.

And now onto the business of winning BIG!

You’ll find 13 different ways to enter Jaftex’s big giveaway at the bottom of this post. Prizes include a Janome S5 sewing machine valued at $1500, an Aurifil thread box valued at $300, a Schmetz needle anniversary tin valued at $75, fat-quarter bundles—plus bolts of fabric for your favorite quilt shop. Good luck!

To enter our giveaway for a “Folio” fat-quarter bundle plus a copy of A Flair for Fabric: Creative Sewing Projects from the Designers at Henry Glass, tell us: which quilting “anniversary” are you celebrating this year?

“Quilting off and on between various reincarnations for over thirty years….still lots of ideas and designs rumbling around in my head (no, that’s not the rocks you hear). Thanks for a lovely month of inspiration!”
