Martingale's Knit and Crochet Friday

Martingale acquisitions editor Karen BurnsThis spring Acquisitions Editor Karen Burns was on the move! Karen (left) has a super-fun job that includes seeking out new authors and book ideas, meeting and brainstorming with current Martingale authors, and traveling around the country to scout the latest trends. This month she attended a trade show hosted by The National NeedleArts Association (also known as TNNA) for yarn shops, designers, publishers (like us!), and other professionals in the fiber arts industry.

What was she up to? While we have to keep some things under wraps for now, we can share with you photos from the show and a little sneak peak into what we’re cooking up with a few of your favorite authors. Check out Karen’s travel journal and sneak peek below!

Hi, I’m Karen Burns, the acquisitions editor here at Martingale! I recently attended the summer show of The National NeedleArts Association, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The yarns were luscious, the knitting and crochet needles plentiful, and the project bags attractive. Looks like there will be lots of beautiful new products and patterns in shops all over the country very soon. If your local shop owner attended and shopped at the show, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for exciting new goodies in the shop!

Beaded bind off from Knitting by NatureTREND ALERT: I saw many beaded styles at the show, included beaded shawls, cowls, and accessories. For ideas on how to include beads and other embellishments in your projects, check out this post.

One of the highlights of the show, for us, is our well-attended book signings with top knit and crochet authors. We sponsor these fun book signings for recent releases, and shop owners have a chance to meet and chat with authors as well as get a signed book.

Check out photos from our book signings, below, and take a peek at the projects that make these books so popular:

As for what else I was up to at TNNA, here’s a sneak peek: at the show, I met up with a few of your favorite authors including Jen Lucas, Doreen L. Marquart, and Sheryl Thies—and we discussed ideas for new books you’re just going to love. Keep an eye out next year for their new books! If you subscribe to Stitch This!, you’ll be the first to know (hint hint).
